Are you taking NDT?

No just Levothyroxine, 150mg a day. Ive read Graves disease can make your tsh really low but can you get Graves with an underactive thyroid or is it just with an overactive thyroid ?

Graves is a seperate autoimmune disease. And it's not just about a low TSH, it's mainly about a high FT3. But, if you Don't have the antibodies, you Don't have Graves. And, you are hypo, so you Don't have Graves.

Your TSH is low because you are taking thyroid hormone replacement. But the fact that it is suppressed here is totally irrelevant. It is suppressed because you Don't need it whist taking thyroid hormone replacement. Hope that's clear. lol

In case it isn't, have a look at this :

Unfortunately, doctors are so uneducated, they think low TSH is a problem. If they were capable of thinking logically, they wouldn't, but doctors seem to have become machines incapable of logical thought!

The most important number is the FT3. If that is over-range, there might be a problem. Yours looks far from over-range, even without the ranges! So, you have nothing to worry about. Except, perhaps, you might actually need an increase in dose, but you're not going to get it with your ignorant doctor and your low TSH... Sigh.

Hi, thank you so much for your reply. I can rule out graves then. I should take no notice of my TSH then and not panick into thinking im going to have a heart attack ! What makes you think i may need an increase in medication ? I take 150mg levo daily, the docs want me to reduce my dose to 125mg daily. Im not happy about doing that as last time i did it made me feel awful.

Well, the thing is, it's difficult to say with any accuracy without the ranges, but your FT3 looks low - below mid-range with most ranges. Can't even begin to guess your FT4 without the range, but it could be that you aren't converting very well, and that's why you're on 150. I Don't know. But certainly that FT3 could do with being higher.

Whatever you do, refuse to lower your dose according to the TSH alone. You will make yourself very ill that way - or your doctors will. They should take the FT3 and your symptoms into account.

But, no, you're in no danger of an imminent heart attack from your low TSH :)

Thank you so much. You have reassured me. Im not going to reduce my meds, the last time i did i felt like a walking zombie. I do still feel tired and energyless but no way how i felt before. My endo did put me on T3 meds before but i had awful headaches and my heart raced so i stopped them. Id like to feel good one day if possible, do you think i may need to start back on the T3 ?

I think maybe you need to get your nutrients checked.

vit D

vit B12

folate

ferritin

If those aren't all optimal, your body will not be able to use the hormone you give it, and you will get side-effects. :)

I had all my checks recently. I take ferrous fumerate for my ferritin which has risen to 42 now. I was told my folate and vit d are all normal. I have b12 jabs every 3 months as i have pernicious anemia. Uptil 2 years ago i felt great but the past couple of years ive felt so rough i just cant pin point the problem

Well, you could try taking sublingual methylcobalamin inbetween shots. Doctors often Don't give high enough doses - or enough doses. I Don't know if that's because of cost, or just plain ignorance.

It's best not to take 'normal' as comment on your blood tests - get the actualy figures and see for yourself. Doctors will say 'normal' if it's just in-range, but sometimes the ranges can be rediculously broad. I very much doubt your vit D is 'normal' living in Britain at this time of year. Ask for a print-out of your results.

Keep working on that ferritin! It's still very low. :)

Thank you so much for your. I have my jabs quartely, i used to have them monthly but didnt feel any benefit so reverted back to quartely. Yes the dr told me my ferritin was normal at 7, until i challenged him and requested something to get it higher. He reluctantly prescribed me some ferrous fumerate, which i take daily. What is the ideal level your ferretin should be ?

Should be up around 100, I think. Are you taking vit C with it? That helps with absorption, and stops you getting constipated.

Honestly! Doctors are hopeless! It's a Wonder we aren't all dead!

I was taking it with vit C but stopped, il get back on it thanks. If we all listened to the docs we would be on our way to the ground but thankfully weve got some great advice from people like yourself 😊
