I’ve been doing some research and I’m getting some conflicting answers regarding if you should take these supplements with Armour or not. Furthermore , how long should the gap be between these supplements and thyroid if they are to be taken independently?
I have apparently been making an error as I take my Armour thyroid not too far away from my morning tea which has cows milk in it, which, as we know , contains calcium . This reduces absorption of thyroid meds I have read which is irritating . Probably will have to give up tea now with cows milk ...
I’d be ever so grateful if you could all impart some wisdom on this matter ?
What do you do ?
Thanks everyone !

I usually take 2 grains in the morning like 6:30am and 1 grain around 3 or 4 and a further 1/2 grain in evening. Should I also not take milk in my tea 4 hours afterwards ? It’s quite a juggling act.
It must be difficult for you to find a window for food etc and I will give you a link from a doctor who was an adviser to TUK. He would never prescribe levo but only NDT or T3 for his thyroid hormone Resistant Patients.
Go to the date January 30, 2002 on the following link:-
The tiny amount of milk one usually has in tea, isn't going to make that much difference, as long as you wait one hour before drinking it. No need to give up tea altogether.
The protocol I have found most comfortable is to have my Armour at 6.30, breakfast at 8 then take only my vitamin supplements (after breakfast, often around 8.30), and all other types of supplements, such as zinc, magnesium ,iron, selenium, bone complex etc, either after lunch or after the evening meal.
how do you feel on this system ? Are you able to have the meds working well with this system ? I am a bit confused because people say you you should wait 4 hours before taking vit D I’ve seen that on here . I think I should take my selenium, zinc, vit D, b complex and magnesium at lunch. Then wait four hours before my second dose of armour thyroid.
Yes I'm fine on my system. You're right I forgot the Vit D though. I do take that at lunchtime. In the morning I take B complex , B12 methylcobalamin (3 times a week), Vit C and Aswaghanda, plus my adrenal cortex tabs. The other ones you mention are taken lunch time or evening. But I do take other supplements as well, in fact most of my supplements are taken at either lunchtime or evening because of the 4 hour rule. I wouldn't take your second dose of Armour as late in the day as you do, as i was told the later you take it, it can affect your sleep ! Hopefully that's not a problem for you?
Ok so you take the b complex, b12 and ashwaganda alongside thyroid meds or with breakfast ?
It’s tough because I am a medical professional too and I have patients to see. Feel like I can’t sneak away to take my meds. And because I plan to take my thyroid meds 4 hours after the suppplent it may being as late as 16:30! I don’t have the problem where it keeps me awake .
I feel I have to do it this way , if I take vit d 5000 IU in evening I definitely will not sleep a wink!
Does you lose weight on this system ? I feel mine generally just climbs up and up 😲
My weight is pretty good and stable. I don't weigh myself now. I take my Armour just the once a day, as it was recommended to me that that's when the body makes thyroid hormones. Taking them later in the day or mid afternoon can throw off your bodies rhythms.See
drchristianson.com/top-10-myths.
My morning supplements are taken 2 hours after the Armour, and of course after breakfast. And it was this site that recommended that I should take them 2 hours after morning thyroid meds. I only have warm water with the Armour.
I believe that the vitaminD3 is not classed as a vitamin but a mild steroid hormone, and is vital for immune cell function as well as helping increase calcium (along with Vit K2), to direct extra calcium to the bones.
Hence this is the reason I take the vitamin D, when I take my bone complex and my Vit K2. I hope I'm not confusing you now ? It can be so confusing.
Yeh my Dr advised I split my dose , as did Dr Myhill. The more I read this information and everyone’s differing experiences I feel a lot of it depends on what works for an individual. Maybe 3.5 grains is a lot to take all once as well .
This site meaning healthunlocked or dr christenson?
Can you possible provide a link for Dr christenson?
Conventional wisdom is: take thyroid one hour before taking anything else, or 2 hours after taking anything else. But the 2-hour rule seems unnecessarily severe.
It would be interesting to know how quickly armour thyroid or other thyroid meds are absorbed and then when it’s in the cells , would shed a lot more light
