Thyroid nodules, blood test result - what now?

Hi

I'd love your help with interpreting the next stage from my blood test results, which are (non fasting, taken at c 12.45 lunchtime, having eaten around 8am - cheese omelette, with a cappuccino, 0.75l water, then 0.5l water around 11am). Test results from Medicheck on date blood taken 8.11.17.

Thyroid Stimulating hormone: 1.83

Free Thyroxin 14.3

Free T3 3.43

Reverse T3 ratio 14.89

Thyroglobulin antibody 12.4

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies 29.3

Active B12 230.2

Folate (serum) 13.73

25 OH Vitamin D 35.1

CRP 0.2

Ferritin 30.4

The reason I've had a test is due to a large LHS thyroid nodule and also a very small RHS thyroid nodule. I've had ultra sounds (x3) and an aspiration test, both were negative.

However, the LHS nodule gets bigger (and sometimes smaller). I have hair loss, not great sleep - waking up at 4am not getting back off again, anxiety, I can get sweaty, I can have palpitations.

I have been supplementing Pure Bio: Adenosyl hydroxy (basically B12) - hence the high reading, so I have now stopped. I also take PureBio Adrenal, and NutriWest Total Thyroid #2.

Medicheck, who have done the blood test, caution B12 is too high, and to come off any supplements. Vit D is too low, reverse T3 is low.

What can anyone suggest in terms of what I can do to self-medicate? Many thanks

Tomps

PS. I've been told by another bulletin board poster, to give the lab's suggested range (although someone who knows more than me about this, says the ranges are very wide, and not that helpful), but for completion I add, with my test results alongside. Many thanks for any help.

TSH: medichecks recommended range 0.27-4.2 (my results 1.83)

Free thyroxine medichecks recommended range 12.00-22.00 (my results 14.3)

Total thyroxin(T4) medichecks recommended range 59-154 (my results 78.4)

Free T3 medichecks recommended range 3.10-6.80 (my results 3.48)

Reverse T3 medichecks recommended range 10.00-24.00 (my results 15)

Reverse T3 ratio medichecks recommended range 15.01-75.00 (my results 14.89)

Thyroglobulin antibody medichecks recommended range 0.00-115.00 (my results 12.4)

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies medichecks recommended range 0.00-34.00 (my results 29.3))

Active B12 medichecks recommended range 25.10-165.00 (my results 230.2)

Folate (Serum) medichecks recommended range 2.91-50.00 (my results 13.73)

25 OH vitamin D medichecks recommended range 50.00-200.00 (my result 35.1)

CRP high sensitivity medichecks recommended range 0.00-5.00 (my result 0.2)

Ferritin 1medichecks recommended range 3.00-150.00 (my result 30.4)

Really looking for answers what to self medicate with.

Many thanks

Thanks Rmichelle. To go with my earlier post lab (medicheck) ranges (although I'm told these are rather wide, so not so helpful ... although I'm a newbie to all this!)

TSH: 0.27-4.2 (my results 1.83)

Free thyroxine 12.00-22.00 (my results 14.3)

Total thyroxin(T4) 59-154 (my results 78.4)

Free T3 3.10-6.80 (my results 3.48)

Reverse T3 10.00-24.00 (my results 15)

Reverse T3 ratio 15.01-75.00 (my results 14.89)

Thyroglobulin antibody 0.00-115.00 (my results 12.4)

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 0.00-34.00 (my results 29.3))

Active B12 25.10-165.00 (my results 230.2)

Folate (Serum) 2.91-50.00 (my results 13.73)

25 OH vitamin D 50.00-200.00 (my result 35.1)

CRP high sensitivity 0.00-5.00 (my result 0.2)

Ferritin 13.00-150.00 (my result 30.4)

Really looking for answers what to self medicate with.

Many thanks

Your TSH is good, but FT4 and FT3 are both on low side

Your TPO antibodies are almost up to 34. So you are heading towards Hashimoto's. Looking at improving your gut function might improve this

Read about leaky gut and low stomach acid

Consider perhaps strictly gluten free diet for 3-6 months to see if it helps

Probiotics, fermented foods and bone broth are all good

Vitamin D and ferritin are both low

Ferritin is recommended to be at least 70. Eating liver once a week would help

Vitamin D recommended on here to supplement to get level up around 100nmol

Do you take any B vitamins? Or a multivitamin? Your B12 is high

Great article about the importance of vitamin D for sleep. Plus vitamin B complex

If you start taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Regarding lab reference ranges, it isn't that they are too wide or otherwise, but that ranges can differ from laboratory to laboratory, and the units of measurement from country to country - hence why it's important to know against what range your blood components have been measured and therefore how your test results are considered.

Many thanks SlowDragon, much appreciated - so it sounds like I need to supplement Vit D. Any recommendations as to what's the best Vit D supplement? And how much to take? (Great article on Vit D).

Yes, I was supplementing B12, although I stopped it 5 days before blood test, still very high, so I'll avoid B complex or other B's for now.

I am gluten free - have been for years.

We eat liver (had it last night actually, but husband very pleased to have it every week!)

So hopefully Vit D might be the answer?! Which one's best?
