High thyroid antibodies and iron issues

When I posted ~10 days ago about my low-ish ferritin and high serum iron, researcherUK and SlowDragon suggested I get a complete iron profile, as well as test my thyroid antibodies. Thanks again!

To recap what I mentioned in my initial post, I was diagnosed in 2010 and currently take 75mcg Synthroid. In my bloodwork from 2 weeks ago, my TSH, FT3 and FT4 were good. My serum iron was really high, though. I was mainly concerned about my really long period cycles. I also had some hair loss.

Original Post: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

I got both these done, and my results are below:

Thyroid Perioxidase (TPO) Ab: 109 IU/mL (range 0-34)

Thyroglobulin (TG) Ab: 10.8 IU/mL (range 0-0.9)

Iron Bind. Cap (TIBC): 78.3 umol/L (range 45-81)

UIBC: 52.1 umol/L (range 23-76)

Iron, Serum: 26 umol/L (range 5-28)

Iron Saturation: 33% (range 15-55)

Ferritin, Serum: 20 ug/L (range 15-150)

Transferrin: 40.2 umol/L (range 25-47)

Two weeks ago, my serum iron was 33 and my serum ferritin was 25. My ferritin is even lower (still within range), but my serum iron is now within the range. Should I still be concerned about my iron levels?

My thyroid antibodies are really high. That means I have Hashimoto's, I guess? What should I do? I know that it was mentioned that I should cut gluten. I did some research and casein was also mentioned - do I need to cut out dairy as well? Gluten would be difficult yet doable, but dairy would be life changing - I'm of Indian descent, and I eat a lot of yogurt.

I'm super frustrated that my endo never did the antibody tests when I was first diagnosed. I feel like calling her up, but I know that would just end up with me being more frustrated.

Personally I just cut the gluten. And soya including soya lecithin

It does have to be absolutely 100% gluten free. Read all labels, watch for things like malt vinegar.

Watch out for cross contamination, eg choping boards, toaster, butter dish etc

Some advocate cutting it all at once including eggs, nuts and dairy, and all grain. Then slowly adding one good group back in at a time. But I knew I couldn't stick to that.

Autoimmune Paleo diet is like that. But lots do react to dairy

Thanks! So you were able to lower your antibodies? If so, how long does it typically take to lower them?

Some people find they lower quite quickly, say 2 years. More probably find about 5 years

TSH needs to be very low too and vitamins good

Mine are dropping very slowly. Down by about half in 2 years
