Hello all,
Long story short I have Hashi's and am on T3 and T4. I was referred for thyroidectomy by my endocrinologist but the surgeon has refused to do it. He doesn't think it's bad enough to justify the risks.
I am in constant discomfort. I have taken the steriods he gave me to try but nothing happened when I took them. I can't lie on my back because it makes me cough. People comment on being able to hear my breathing (!).
He wants me to have another ultrasound and has pointed me to another surgeon for a second opinion. Would an ultrasound show if the thryoid is compressing the windpipe? That is the most annoying symptom, it feels like someone is gently squeezing my throat each side of the voicebox. If it won't show that, I'm not likely to get a more helpful response from the next surgeon so a better bet might be to ask for a different kind of scan?
I am gluten free and try to do enough exercise etc. Folowing the latest batch of blood tests the surgeon has described my TPO antibody level as very high, but hasn't given me the numbers. I would welcome advice from anyone who has found a treatment that reduces that lump in the throat feeling. Thank you!
