For the last few months, I have had a pain on the right side of my neck that radiates up to my chin and down to my shoulder. My doctor said it is a migraine in my neck. That it is to high up to be from my thyroid. It feels almost like I’m being slightly strangled all the time and like a hard rope but with my artery pulsating atop of it. He put me on imitex. But now the same thing is happening to my left side and getting migraines in my head. Has anyone else experienced this with Hashimotos?

Muscle spasms in neck
I get this feeling. Once I mentioned to a doctor at the hospital a while ago now. He dismissed it as 'nothing' that there was nothing wrong with me except Hashimotos and the only treatment was Levothyroxine. I felt let down by that and no other doctor has been able to put my mind at rest. It is a frightening feeling at times. I just put up with it. It's a private hell.
I used to get something similar until I started supplementing with magnesium, and using magnesium oil and having Epsom salt baths. Magnesium is amazing stuff that most of us are deficient in as it’s not in the soil as much now. Migraines can be treated with magnesium too.
I’ve been taking magnesium citrate every night. I haven’t tried the oil yet. When I wake up in the morning before I get out of bed, the “pressure” feeling isn’t there. But within one hour of being up it comes back and my face and chest starts going numb. :—/
Do you know your latest FT-4 FT-3 values ? Aches and pains can be felt when FT-4 FT-3 values are too high .
You couldn't make it up could you - migraine in neck ......................you may have put your neck out and need to see someone about that - osteopath - but make sure she/he is good and failing that you need to go back to your GP and impress on him it could be something more serious. Your blood pressure may have increased to such an extent due to higher rate of metabolism it is putting pressure on your arterial system. It might be worth going to A&E if your GP refuses to accept this.
Hi,
I also suffer with muscle spasms in the neck, it's very unpleasant and quite frightening. It is a sign for me that my magnesium levels are dropping. Muscle spasms and twitches, along with migraines and a raised blood pressure are among the symptoms. Most people are deficient in magnesium but don't get symptoms until levels drop significantly. There are lots of things that predispose us to this, some medications are harmful ie. Proton pump inhibitors like lanzoprazole and unfortunately thyroid replacement therapy can have it's problems with our body trying to maintain magnesium levels. The menopause is also a factor and also diet. Alcohol, high sugar levels in the diet and fizzy drinks all contribute to low magnesium. It's really important for those of us on thyroid replacement to keep our eye on magnesium levels.
I take regular supplements, magnesium malate orally, and baths in magnesium flakes. When my magnesium levels are better, the spasms stop.
You won't get any help from doctors, they don't understand, sadly.
