Just a quick question. I've started suffering from quite painful back of neck/top of shoulders this past week in addition to my throat pain. Could this be from the Levothryoxine or just good old Hashimoto's? I feel like I need a really rough massage to sort it out!
Thanks and happy Monday!

Hi pennyrose! I've been suffering with neck and shoulder pains too. Also in my arms. I have Hashimoto's. Not sure if it is to be expected or whether it is due to an insufficiency of levothyroxine or an over-medicated issue. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along and help us out!
Hi Both, May be thyroid, check TSH, T4 and Free T3 but also likely to be low vit D , simple blood test, If low essential to have a corrected calcium test first as D may make the calcium rise above range, if already near the top. Then retest after 3 months,Ideally under an Endo, or GP. Corrected calcium must never go above range, very important.
Thank you Jackie. Had bloods taken this morning so see what that throws up, if anything. I started taking D3 about 2 months ago when my GP refused to prescribe for me even though I was reported to be "insufficient". Been taking about 1000 a day. Didn't know about the corrected calcium test! Should I tell my doctor I have been supplementing and ask for this test? What if he refuses? I can't afford to have a private blood test done.
Hi I would definitely ask,, GP, I expect he will be so glad not costing the practice with the Vit D and saving their precious money!!It is often called bone profile, but only the corrected calcium matters, there are 2.If one done that is fine. Regarding thyroid treatment also make sure your T4 and Free T3 are good.
were you aware that you can self refer to a physio. I did this as my GP was rubbish and di nothing.
I went to the physio once a week for about 6 weeks and was shown exercises to do and was given massage. Although I had problems with my shoulder and neck the issue was with my spine. Upon further reading a fused or damaged spine at the C3 or C4 vertebra is common with thyroid issues. Get yourselves to a physio. It does work wonders.
I did think seeing a physio might be a good idea but I don't have a very sympathetic GP so didn't pursue it! How do I go about self referring and do I have to tell my GP. Many thanks for your help greenginger.
Hi I contacted the physio department at my local hospital after seeing an advert at my GP's. They asked me a few questions and then gave me an appointment. I even had the choice of location so went to my local clinic which is only 5 minutes away.
If you cant self refer in your area then see your GP and ask as it really does help. I was fobbed off with my GP for 2 years. Sorted in 6 weeks by physio. Good luck.
BTW if you do a bit of research about physios, back pain and thyroid you will see what I mean.
Thanks o much everyone. Seeing my endo on Friday to go over ultrasound and check t3 and ferritin levels. Neck pain is pretty bad and find it difficult to sit up without pain. Will ask about physio and vitamin d. X
