Can antibodies change? Hashimotos.

Sorry to re post, I just wanted some advice before I re test my thyroid in 3 weeks time. I am wanting to order my test ready and am not sure whether to include antibodies or not.

I had my antibodies tested in January, March and July. The results were

January 2016

Anti- Thyroidperoxidase abs 11 <34

Anti - Thyroglobulin Abs <10.000 <115

March 2016

Anti- Thyroidperoxidase abs 10.7 <34

Anti - Thyroglobulin Abs <10.000 <115

July 2016

Anti- Thyroidperoxidase abs 6.71 <34

Anti - Thyroglobulin Abs 12.440 <115

I am going to order the test that tests TSH, FT4 and FT3. I have been on levo 4 months (May) now and recently increased to 50mg. My TSH in May was 9.28, it went down to 6.8 by July and 2 weeks ago jumped back up to 7.9. So I had an increase to 50mg.

Is there any point in re testing antibodies? just that increases the cost of the test. My last 2 have been normal. So is it 100% I don't have hashimotos? Hypothyroidism runs through my mums family and 1 member on my dads side. I don't know if anyone has hashimotos as they've never been tested, so they think.

I have energy crashes probably once a week or so but daily have symptoms. My main symptom is the chronic fatigue daily to the point I am practically house bound which has led to agoraphobia and social anxiety. I had anxiety and agoraphobia for 2 years after I was attacked by my brother in 2012, but I overcame it then I became ill a year ago with awful chronic fatigue and wham it crept back in. I have daily the chronic fatigue, energy crashes if i go out for long periods, if I over do things at home (housework or yoga), tired every day by 6pm and need to rest. I get dry mouth, muscle weakness (especially my thighs go so weak right before an energy crash is about to hit), a walking on a boat feeling sometimes especially if I go into an energy crash, anxiety and panic attacks, agoraphobia, depression due to my situation, dry skin, hair loss on head and outer eyebrows, weightgain and unable to lose weight, I sometimes feel cold but more often I feel very hot, unable to do much housework or I crash and need to rest between chores.... Life is bloody tough and I have lost a lot of confidence because of this and all my anxiety has come rushing in. My TSH has risen since 2013 when it was 4.9, August '15 5.35, January '16 6.5, March '16 7.5, May'16 9.28... I then started 25mg levo and in July the TSH was 6.8. End of August it crept back up to 7.5 so I am now on 50mg. T3 has always been fine at around 5.6. FT4 has been strange, always ok in the 12-22 range it's gone from 14-15 pre levo and now 16-17 on levo.

Any advice appreciated. I just wondered if any of this sounds like hashimotos or can I be sure from my results that I don't have it. Now on levo will it not increase? I noticed once on 25mg levo my TPO dropped down to 6.

Thank you

Julie

Jingyd35,

Antibody levels can fluctuate but yours have been negative for the last three tests so it isn't worth checking them more frequently than annually.

Oh good. Thank you 😊

Have you checked Vit D, b12, folate and ferritin?

in reply to SlowDragon

Yes ferritin was 15 a year ago it's now 49. Folate is normal. Vitamin d 75. B12 was 212 a year ago and now 1070. I've been supplementing.

Have you been supplementing vitamin D?

It could perhaps do with pushing up a bit higher, as only "just" in OK range

"A normal level of vitamin D is defined as a 25(OH)D concentration greater than 30 ng/mL (75 nmol/L).

Vitamin D insufficiency is defined as a 25(OH)D concentration of 20 to 30 ng/mL (50 to 75 nmol/L).

Vitamin D deficiency is defined as a 25(OH)D level less than 20 ng/mL (50 nmol/L)"

You might find vitamin B complex, helpful even though folate is "normal", especially if you have been taking any vitamin D (as this apparently depletes B5- see link below) I certainly have found B complex good for supporting my adrenals (and my folate was actually was right at top of range, before I started improving my vitamin D)
