Going up to 3 grains of NDT and get retested.

Hi all

These were my blood tests a about 6 weeks ago. Was on 2 grains of NDT.

Thyroid Function

TSH 0.58 0.27 - 4.20 IU/L

Free T4 12.96 12 - 22 pmol/L

Free T3 4.81 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L

No problems with B12 or Iron Vit D was very low. Critical. No Antibody problems.

I have gone up to 2 and 1/2 grains for the last two weeks and 10,000 UI of Vitamin D

No Hyper symptoms whatsover ever and my joints are getting better, still have bad nails and skin, but hair problems, contstipation, fatigue almost gone. Aches and pains are improving.

Was going to go to 3 Grains and then get rested blood wise. Being unemployed (well trying tostart a new company) i have limited funds so wanted to increase by 1 grain before a rested as my FT4 is low and FT3 is midrange, so converting OK.

Question is how long should i be on 3 grains before a restest, (as long as there are no other complications), and how long do i say on the dosage of 10,000 IU of Vitamin D before a restest. Take a strong multi Vit B and C complex and a strong mineral support too.

Many Thanks

I presume your initial level was under 25nmol/L? If so take 10,000IU daily for 12 weeks and then wait 2 days and get a private test. Then workout your dose from the new test results.

Yes it was 24.3 from memory but I could be wrong but was definitely under 25 :)

Crunchieeagle,

Retest thyroid levels 6-8 weeks after you've been taking 3 grains.

I would supplement 10,000iu for 2-3 months, reduce to 5,000iu daily for 3 months and then retest vitD.

ps FT4 is often low when taking NDT or T3. It's not a problem when FT3 is good. FT3 4.8 is good but there is scope to increase.

Thanks Clutter. Yes 4.8 is just under midrange (4.95 if my maths is correct), so would ideally like to be 6.2-6.8 (again if my maths is correct).

I agree TSH is completely irrelevant and a low FT4 is not a bad thing on NDT if the FT3 is good, because you must be converting well i assume.

Thanks Clutter you are so helpful :)
