I did this test a couple of weeks ago and I only got one bottle.
I was also a little puzzled as a previous one I had done which was for less tests included three bottles.
Anyway this time I just filled the one bottle, sent it off thinking if they had sent me the one by mistake they would get back to me but I got my results via email 2 days later.
Sorry mean't to say, I did the test at 8.45am and posted it about an hour later so it would get sent off with the lunchtime post, so best to send it off as soon as you can the same day.
I'm so glad you asked this question. I have this test waiting for me to do next Monday, not even opened it until I read your question. I've just looked and I also only have the yellow topped bottle. I can only assume that it is a sort of generic instruction sheet sent out with finger prick tests as it does say to fill the "bottle(s)", and for this particular test just the one bottle is needed.
If no-one answers your question I would contact them to be sure. Would you mind updating this thread if you do find out please.
P.S. Just seen that Browny answered before I clicked submit. Looks like we just need to fill the one bottle then
I've just triple read all of the bumf in the packet & there is a second sheet that lists all of their tests with mine ticked. There is a colour code down the side of each test (yellow, grey & purple spots) & this test only has a yellow spot next to it, so I'm thinking that you're right Susie & it's a generic sheet & just the yellow bottle is what is needed for this test. Phew!
I did this test a few weeks ago and had two tubes to fill. Can't remember if it was just before or just after Browny. I took a deep breath and filled them both but it might be worth calling them and asking to make sure.
I like to do my tests as early in the day and also as early in the week as possible so that there is no chance of it ending up lying in the mail somewhere over a weekend. Like the others have said, the results are back in a few days.
Hi Coastwalker, I'm not F&NC but I can answer your question
There is a small tube which looks to be about 5ml/teaspoonful size at most. It's inside a larger tube for protection so looks bigger but you just fill the small tube.
As for how painful, I did a finger prick Vit D test yesterday so basically the same but not as much blood needed. You just press the lance on your finger and you can feel it but it's done in a nano second. There are hints about getting the blood to flow - warm water, little rubber band on finger, milking the finger, which is all supposed to help. Looks like Scorchio had a bit of a problem from her reply below so I hope mine goes a bit more smoothly!
Sorry been out all day. I didn't find it painful. Must admit I tend to put the lancet on my finger and look away then try to 'surprise myself' when I prick it - it will be easier for you to do your husband probably. It really doesn't hurt, a paper cut is much more painful as is accidentally pricking your finger on a pin or something like that.
It tells you to do it at the side of your finger but be careful not to go too close to the side - I did that last time and it was annoying because the blood ran in under my finger nail.
I got and filled two tiny test tubes, you get a cute little filter funnel thing to drip the blood into. I use my left hand although if I was giving blood I would always use my right arm because the blood flows much better so if you are doing it for him try the side. Due to the blood running under my nail etc I made another hole and once I was on a roll I'm sure I could have filled another few tubes. 😉
I had a bit of an issue with my tests as I don't bleed enough to fill the vial from a fingerprick (believe me, I tried *everything* and got two whole drops from all three fingers) so had to call Blue Horizon up - they were lovely and sent out a vacutube. Sent off on a Friday (as that was the earliest appointment with the phlebotomist) and got the results back on Monday afternoon.
I too have just had one bottle and I rang them to query, the lady said it was a mistake in the instructions and just fill the yellow one that you have as best as you can. She also said that the things tested for in the thyroid plus 10 are fairly stable so it doesn't matter if you only have afternoon post collections as we do but don't send it just before a weekend especially a bank holiday. I am waiting until next Tuesday to do it and will do it early in the morning before eating in the hope of getting as high a reading as possible. Of course I still have to get the blood out!!
Oh yes, I'd forgotten it is Bank Holiday. I'll do mine on Tuesday . There is only a late afternoon collection here too.
But with all due respect to the lady you spoke to, perhaps she's not sure of the forms. The instruction sheet is a standard one that seems to cover all tests not just the Thyroid Plus Ten so there can't be a 'mistake' as it's not specific to that test. The sheet that lists the tests and is ticked for the test ordered has colour coded spots and the Thyroid Plus Ten has just a yellow spot as Scorchio says. It is confusing though, especially if we're having a foggy brain day. They should perhaps word the instruction form a little more clearly regarding different tubes for different tests.
What a nightmare this is! It's just taken me 40 minutes to get the tube filled!! I even had a shower to try & get the blood flowing better. I hope the duration doesn't cause any problems
Anyway, all done. I'll post in an hour & see what happens. I guess if there's a problem they'll let me know
