I have found simethicone to be more effective than anything. I buy the Windeze chewable as they work quickly. I'm also IBS-C and find buscopan & colofac useless.
Hi If you can improve the constipation it may well help.
Two things that can help -
1. More fibre - fruit and veg is the best if you can tolerate fibre
and fibogel is very good its a natural plant fibre that's what the doctor recommended me as its natural and helps the gut work. Try half a packet a day at first . And then a whole packet if needed once a day right after meals.
You can get it at the pharmacy.
2. Yakult I found very good for IBC C too - it's a probiotic drink
3 Water - drinking also helps - water helps things not get too dry inside and helps the gut work - any drink that is mostly water helps if you dont like water on its own.
Drinking outside of meal times in between meals is best.
I’ve got prescription meds for the constipation & I’ve been doing the FODMAP diet for a while , but keeping up the fibre with chia seeds & flax also vegetables etc.
I drink loads of water & do lots of waking , it’s just this wind build up that’s got worse in the afternoon & evening
Afternoon and evening wind, 🤔I presume this is happening after eating? If it is ask your GP if Mebeverine time release caps would be suitable for you, they do work quicker than the tab form, and suggest smaller portions with evening meals.
Thanks I did ask the gastroenterologist on Monday , but he wasn’t sure & as for getting an appointment with the GP , that’s just a joke at the moment 🙄 on appointments at all !
I'm in the same boat I've lost a lot too but managing to put it on slowly, eating more often just smaller meals. Now I've found what I can tolerate through the fod map I just eat more of that, its really boring sometimes but I'm feeling so much better . I hope you manage to find something to help you I know how horrid it is!
I’ve been doing the FODMAP diet for a while now & I’m more or less finished with the reintroduction , but I’m so up & down that it’s hard to tell exactly what’s doing any harm , if anything ?
I’ve got stuck in a food rut after doing it & like you eat very samey foods all the time 🙄
It is horrible isn’t it , I’m sorry you have the same issues
No I wasn’t re tested in fact when I think about it the nurse gave me the antibiotics, there were 2 to take together if I remember rightly and I don’t think I was tested at all . The antibiotics didn’t help so I think she assumed I didn’t have H pylori
Normally a triple therapy of metronidazole, amoxicillin and a ppi. 80 percent success on first line treatment but possibly a second. Tho you need to re test. You have to stop any ppi like omeprozole for a couple of weeks before hand. Even if your clear it can take at least six months for you to get back to normal
I’ve been buying simeticone for years and must have spent a fortune. Pity it’s not available on prescription. Sometimes it helps a bit but not totally. Just lately I’ve had lots of spasms and wind. Awful and so potentially embarrassing . Today I’ve researched pro/pre biopics and have just ordered some so watch this space! I need to take medication for hiatus hernia and definitely think that these contribute to my bowel issues :(
I’ve bought some Rennie’s deflatine today & they contain simeticone, they have helped a bit .
I’m sorry you’re having the same problem! It is embarrassing especially when you’re in company 🙄
I take probiotics & have just added Bimuno (prebiotic) , there’s a lot of information on the IBSnetwork which I’ve just printed off , it looks quite extensive so it would be worth you having a look .
7 months later, can you tell me what you think worked best?I also get wind massively PM mainly and I think it's the major issue for me.
I don't think I class as C or D specifically. Tried Rennie, charcoal, no help really. Was/is FODMAP, tried mebeverine once which seemed to start off OK but then got worse. Maybe I need to take a look at that again.
It’s hard to say which works best as i take both , one of the main releases for the trapped wind is relaxing ,which is hard to do when you’re in such a lot of discomfort , but when I relax it releases , also moving about helps , a hot water bottle also does .
