I am wondering if some of my IBS symptoms may be down to trapped wind. What is the best medication for this?
I have severe bloating, sharp pains and discomfort. I also get a lot of bubbling in my intestines and they get very noisy and sometimes are high pitched - would wind relief tablets aid this?
Please let me know what has helped you.

Gasalia can be found at BoironUSA.Com Info@Boiron.com 1-800-Boiron-1 Also sold on Amazon.com and another called Gas-X both have been of some help. The active ingredient in Gas-x is Simethicone 125 mg. This One is sold in most drug stores over the counter.
I seem to have better (slightly helpful)results from Deflatine than Windeze although to be honest they are just another thing I take in my IBS battle along with Buscapan, Imodium etc
Buscopan IBS tablets. Says on the packaging to take for 2 weeks only but my gastroenterologist who I see for my IBS and IBD has said it can be taken for longer if necessary. I do not need to take this med consistently at all; I just take it for a few days normally when the bloating and gas play up. Once things settle I stop it... there are many OTC meds available so you could ask a pharmacist.
I get the same, especially wind in the evening. I have tried peppermint capsules from Amazon, taken before a meal - they don’t seem to work.
It’s embarrassing especially when my stomach rumbles after I’ve eaten and I’ve stopped meeting up with friends and family because of this.
Sounds awful but the only way I can get rid of bloat is to let go of the wind, else it’s very uncomfortable.
I always remember a friend telling me years ago that she had trapped wind and held it in during company and ended up passing out. I laughed at the time but now it’s not so funny.
I find Wind settlers or Boots IBS wind relief caps (both Simethicone) helps with wind. Most of the time Simethicone on its own does the job. Depending on how bloated I get, I will add Colpermin caps ( peppermint oil) as well. Sceptic a bit at first but now I also find massaging my tummy also helps! ( helps calm me down a bit too)
Hi! Trapped wind is horrible! The only things that have helped me are pills containing simeticone such as Wind-Eze, also crystallised ginger seems to have a calming effect. Hope this helps!
I struggle with this so much and eat the same food everyday that I'm the least reactive to but it still happens too often. I use my bentyl and hyoscymine and 500 mg phazyme which is simethicone and heating pad. Doing some yoga poses help alot. Massage your colon in small circles starting right lower all the way to left lower. This is a game changer and it's better when someone else does it for you. I also use a neck massage pillow lay it on the abdomen turn on heat and put your hands on it for more pressure. All in all I end up doing an enema if it's really bad.
Well, some people seem to have relief using certain things like simethicone etc, not everyone benefits , I never have, and think that something that can deal with this across the board is like the holy grail, ( are you listening big pharma?)
There are times when the gas is more painful, I think that is when the bowel is in spasm, at its worst I have been prescribed diazepam ( relaxes muscles). Buscopan etc don’t work for me .
I got really excruciating trapped wind for no obvious reason the other day, and my lower belly swelled up. It happened without warning one afternoon when I was fixing a fence. I soldiered on for about 20 minutes hoping I would just pass the wind but I didn't. I have never been stabbed, thank God, but it felt like I imagine being stabbed might be like, Sheer agony. I could hardly breathe or move.
I got back in and lay down flat on the floor, regulated my breathing to a slower rhythm, even though it hurt, then did a belly massage (of the whole colon, starting at the lower right, then up on the right side to the ribs, then across to the splenic flexure, and down the right hand side to the sigmoid area.
Eventually I could feel lumps moving around from one place to another but heading in the right direction!
When I could move a bit, I made a hot tea (just Earl Grey without milk) Not even peppermint of Camomile. I rubbed my belly with the hot teapot (over the top of my clothes of course.)
After the tea and a rest and massage, the pain started to ease up. It might have lasted more than an hour. I could manage to get on with my day for a while.
I hoped I might pass out a lot of wind. That didn't happen until later after I'd had dinner, but at least the pain lessened a lot.
