IBS with trapped wind.

Hi everyone.I was diagnosed with IBS years ago having told my GP the symptoms I had. They were trapped wind which caused a bit of pain and discomfort. My symptoms remain much the same but I am now getting the feeling at times that I am either needing to pass wind or go for another bowel movement. It is uncomfortable and at times I am afraid to go out in case I need a bowel movement.I stay myself now since my wife passed away and I think some of my bother is not having someone to talk to.Does anyone else have similar symptoms and what do you do about it.I find Buscopan not much help and when I took Colpermin one night a few years ago,I got a very bad pain on the left hand side of my abdomen so I'm afraid to try that again.I know I am a lot luckier than most people with IBS since I very rarely get diaorrhea and never have constipation.

A little whiskey or brandy with a little sugar and hot water as a night cap

Baby gripe water

Ginger liquorice or mint tea

Remember childhood rhyme ,where're you be let your wind go free!

I sympathize with your anxiety about not knowing if it's wind or needing to go for a bowel movement. I was put on RestoraLAX and it literally made every need to pass gas a bowel movement instead. Awful! That being said, I've found, as have others writing on this forum, that exercise - walking especially - can help to expel gas. Therefore, by staying at home rather than going out for a walk, you might just be compounding your problem. If you are really anxious about having a problem whilst outside, perhaps you might consider using an adult 'nappy' (for wont of a better word)?

So far, my trapped wind is just that, and hopefully won't worsen. I sometimes also give myself a gently tummy rub.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice,I'll try the exercise.

I keep telling people this, but it was on the front page of my web server yesterday. A cup of hot water from the kettle every morning before anything else and you will find a difference in your health, like trapped wind easing away, tummy troubles lessening. It is a very old remedy but it works.

Thanks for the advice,I'll try it tomorrow morning.Strangely enough my mother's uncle who stayed with us did this every morning and I can't remember him ever having any illnesses but I was just a young boy at that time many moons ago.He lived till well into his eighties so it must have worked. Thanks again!
