I suffer quite a bit of discomfort from IBS, connected to stress. My doctor prescribed mebeverine tablets, 135mg, three times a day, which helped, but it is not recommended that you take these continuously, so I was prescribed buscopan tablets, 10mg, one tablet four times a day.
Wondering if it might be better to have fybogel with mebeverine to counter the discomfort I am still getting, instead of the buscopan tablets? Does anyone know if these fybogel are similar to the mebeverine tablets in that you oughtn't to take them continuously?

I didn't know u couldn't take mebeverine tablets continously my doctor has given me my second lot and given me a repeat prescription he never mentioned anything except take when needed. I also take bus capable when needed and prefer these I have stress ibs too. Never taken fybrogel though
That's what I was informed by the practice manager of the GPS surgery, so I assume she knew what she was talking about? Perhaps it might be best to speak directly to one of the doctors there to get their advice... so many pills and potions I am taking for IBS, but I believe that, as it is stress induced, like yours, that regular exercise might help to reduce this discomfort...
Fybogel is just away of getting more fibre into your body , you can do this with foods like bran flake, brown bread, mebeverine is just to help with cramps buscopan to me is the best medicine for this, am not sure what your symptoms are but I would suggest to be checked out for bile acid malabsorption also change your diet to the Mediterranean diet this is having great affect with people wit I B S , hope this helps, another tablet you can by is HTp-5 vitamin tablet for your stress I have takening these for a few months now they have helping me
There are so many different diets that people have recommended. The Mediterranean diet? I'll check up on that one. Give it a go to see what the results are. And I will enquiry about bile acid malabsorption. Not sure if I will need a test done for that? And also HTp5 vitamin tablet for stress. I will have to ask the advice of my doctor for that as I am taking quite a few pills for other conditions too, so have to be careful they don't clash. Thanks for all your suggestions...
Hi I suffered many years with so called I B S , am type 2 taking insulin injections like yourself I have tried every diet known to man , passed from one consultant to another had camarea in my body and every time told my intestines are healthy, but why was I running to the toilet and having stomach cramps, I have done my own reaseach writing lists what food upset my tummy, I looked up Dr Micheal Mosley , he has lots of programmes on BBC tv he reasearched Mediterranean diet and why there health is far better than ours , I take 11 tablets every morning, plus several injections a day, I needed to track down why I suffer from with this condition , now after my research and working with my consultant bile acid malaption was diagnosed this is when the gallbladder or liver either one makes to much acid within the body and can't reuse it then goes in to the intestine and is not absorbed this then causes diarrhoea, but the changes I have made with doing the Mediterranean diet taken out three tablets and replaced with one tablet I have made a 95 % change to my life I can go weeks and months now what a change it's making to my life, I know how living a life with constant pain toilet needs drags you down but if I can help make any changes to suffers to have a better quality of life by the information I have learned then I can only pass it on, am not a specialist just had lots of tests and diagnosis and this is the best one I have ever had, hope this might help you
Thanks for this. I don't have problems with diarrhoea, but do have to pass water more frequently and urgently. Perhaps I shall mention that to the pharmacist too. Glad things have improved for you and that your quality of life has improved...
Hi, I have suffered diarrhoea daily all my adult life. Have survived by taking codeine phosphate but recently I eventually saw a Consultant as my blood tests were indicating a problem with some results. He suggested I try taking a medication for bile acid malabsorption although he doubted it would help. I was trying several changes of medication at this time and feeling quite unwell so I must be honest, I only tried for a few days and didn’t notice any change. Should I have given the medication for bile malabsorption longer? My diet is consisting in the main of rice & potato which is ok but I can’t keep that up.
Perhaps you should do what was suggested to me and speak to a pharmacist. They might be more apt at responding on these matters... Hope you find a solution..
If they are working no, keep on with them. Trouble is with me, I am on a lot of pills, so am a bit worried with that and if I can find alternatives to these, then that would be better..
I do get constipation, due to being tense all the time, so I definitely do need that. I could try without for a few days and increase the fibre in my diet. See what happens then. Anything to reduce the amount of medications that I am on..
I'm not entirely sure what the recommendation is, however, I think it can vary from person to person. I have IBS and was prescribed Buscopan and initially that made a huge difference. However the discomfort seemed to start again.
So, I ended up reducing the number of tablets I took almost down to 1 or 2 a day which seems to have things more or less under control.
That's what I am trying to do to see if it makes a difference and, again, to reduce the amount of tablets that I am taking. Guess it is a case of experimenting...
