Mebeverine: Hi all can anyone tell me how long I... - IBS Network
Mebeverine
I’ve taken 3 a day for a year. Doesn’t always help. X
I have been on it twice a day for 6 months - it is in my Fybogel. After the first 4 months it wasn’t really helping with the stomach cramps, so the doctor prescribed me Colpermin as well which seems better so far.
I have taken two a day for 3 years. Mebervine really helps me stops the cramping. It should have improved your symptoms by now perhaps your Dr should prescribe something else for you.
Mebevrine should relieve your pain within a couple of hours, if it is going to work at all.I don't think there's a problem with long term use, but it would be worth checking with your doctor or a pharmacist.
Mebevrine does not relieve diahhroea or constipation - it is for the pain associated with IBS.
Mebervine is constipating, so only good when you have loose stools
I've been taking Meberivin for many years.Meberivin as you know is for the IBS symptoms we get when it effects us badly.
So depending on your symptoms you can be using Meberivin for years,But it depends on the actual person and how bad their symptoms are.
Days are better than others, You might take 3 in a day where on a good day you might just take one or two.
I've been taking mebeverine for years at a dose of 1 tablet 3 times a day before meals.
I am not seeing much benefit from it these days, however I have recently moved home, so I will have a chat with my new GP.
I also take Omeprasole each night and I know that is working, because if I miss a dose, my problems start appearing within 24 hours.
I hope this helps.

I was taking these for a l9ng time and they never worked for me.I now use Buscopan or buscpan ibs relief which are far more better for me and i can go weeks without a flare up now.
Hope this helps.
Mebeverine is an antispasmodic. It is designed to reduce cramps and facilitate smooth passage of stool rather than sudden diarrhoea. I have been taking 3 a day for 3 years, since my coeliac disease became active and left me with worsened IBS with alternating constipation and diarrhoea. The doctor is quite happy for me to continue taking them. Without them, I would still be having more frequent diarrhoea. My villi are still damaged, I don't digest food well and a lack of routine and certain foods exacerbate this. So in my case, the pills are necessary along with other management techniques. I don't see the harm in taking these long term, as there is nothing inherent about them that would reduce their efficacy over time, though I would prefer to be get to a position where I dont need something like that to live a relatively normal life. It depends why you would like to come off them yourself?
Mebeverine was about the only IBS treatment along with Colafac, which is almost the same of Mebeverine. I haven't taken Mebeverine last two decades, as they don't work for me a long time. Only buscapam I take now for a couple of days if needed. Mebeverine is now an outdated not very effective pill. I'm not surprised it's not helping you
Hi I took mebeverine and it didn’t help if it’s not helping now I don’t think it will help and you probably need to go back to your gps
