My GP has given me fybogel and i've had it for 2 days now - hard to tell if it is working (i had a nice BM yesterday so maybe it is) but anyway it's causing me a lot of painful tummy crampage - has anyone used this and know how long it takes to adjust to it? it hurts and i'm just as bloated as i was with constipation cos of all the fibre gas 😣😣
Fybogel: My GP has given me fybogel and i've had... - IBS Network
Fybogel
My consultant told me that he's stopped prescribing fybogel for IBS and instead suggests his patients take golden Linseed - available at most supermarkets. For me it works a treat!
My consultant told me the same, but prescribed me prucalopride and it's been awesome I go every day now. Still have to watch the diet bcos of divaticular desase but learning very quickly what affects that nuts are a big no no. Good luck
Okay that's interesting - is golden linserds the same as flax? also yes i find nuts a big problem too!x
No not the same golden linseed has more flavour than flax and flax could be as irritating to divaticular as nuts. I love nut , but however , I don't like the pain they cause hours after eating them . Glad you have confirmed that for me as I might of continued thinking I might be wrong , thank you so much. Good luck .
Try a 2 teasp of olive oil a day, mix it with orange juice oir something like it, its better than fibrogel
I often wonder whether Fybogel (psyllium) should come with some sort of health warning. It's not a laxative but a stool bulking agent and has been known to make constipation far worse. My friend who's an A&E nurse has come across many patients admitted with severe impaction made worse by a build-up of stool in the colon caused by Fybogel.
I have had problems with Fybrogel for IBS though I took it several years before working out it was actually causing me cramping.
Drinking it also filled me up so I had little room for food
I've been better since I returned to Loperamide on prescription. (that was after I spent a lot of money with an alternative health lady. She was qualified and genuine but non of the potions helped at all.)
Also, a couple of years ago the instruction leaflet in my box of Fybrogel carried a warning not to use it with Morphine, which I was taking.
I tried to follow this up but became unwell and let it go, but remember that this warning was only on this one leaflet and I think it was on the Online version too, yet I had the Fybrogel on prescription...GRRRRRR!
I hope you feel better quickly.
I'm sorry about your problems with fybogel - I've heard a lot of GPs have stopped prescribing it as it's not that effective... It seems to sort of work for me but only if i have coffee as well, so I'm going to switch to something like fibresmart which apparently works better? x
