Beginning vitamin supplements: testing needed?
Before starting on recommended supplements such as zinc, magnesium, selenium, etc. would it be unwise to take up to the RDA of each mineral if testing is unavailable / denied / too expensive? I figure that since it's very difficult to overdose from dietary sources for most things you'd have to be going

Feel super
Dear friends, I have not come because I feel so very well. I don’t think you can give me any advice on this! Playing my flute met with some obstacles of learning. But I got over my lack of self-confidence by reading a book on performance anxiety and doing some mirror work. (Rome is not built in one day

Thyroid, Vitamins and Minerals: Effect on Periods / Withdrawal Bleeds
So... I've been on the pill for years (barring pregnancy) and apart from Cerazette have always had withdrawal bleeds. These packed up in January, leading to ovarian scans and cancer tests, which thankfully were all clear. My regular GP was convinced that it was down to the pill itself, the gynae specialist

Any other vitamins should I be taking?
Hi I have a diagnosis of Hashimotos and continue to have lots of symptoms which are a pain in the butt! And to top it all, my GP is only prescribing Levothyroxine 125mcg as a treatment and is not listening to my pleas to try alternatives. I currently take the following vitamins to help but am wondering

Need your opinions on blood results please
A month ago I wrote a post "Is it depression or a Thyroid Problem" relating to my brother who has numerous problems, and a typical underactive thyroid face! You were all very helpful and encouraging. I did , in the end, manage to persuade him to have private tests done, and today he sent me the

24-hour cortisol test: supplements skew results?
I've just done a 24-hour cortisol test from Genova Diagnostics. For the 24 hours of the test I did not use my Beconase spray as it contains steroids but I did continue to take my zinc supplement. Now I read on STTM that I should have been off both for at least two weeks prior to testing. Will the zinc

Time for action.
Thanks for all your replies to my questions over the past week. I started looking at this forum when I was diagnosed with persistent AF last year. Rather naively though, I thought it was a short term ailment which would soon be sorted so I didn't need any extra support. I felt great on Amiodorone too

Felt brilliant in both pregnancies so looking for clues...
A little off topice but hoping you'll be able to help... I've been pregnant twice, with two healthy children as the outcome. Physically, pregnancy is not kind to me: I had symphis pubis dysfunction twice (less awful in the second pregnancy as about three stone lighter) and gestational diabetes twice

Hair loss
So my hair is coming out at a somewhat more noticeable rate than before and at times I wouldn't expect to see it. I know I'm not optimally medicated but my current fT3 level is 4.0 (3.5-5.5) vs 3.8 about five weeks ago and the hair loss is much worse than then. I'm pretty sure my ferritin is at a healthy

Fit Bit
Since I started taking the magnesium marine tablets I have been sleeping so much better, I now have a fit bit that you were as a watch and when you go to bed you tell it you are going to sleep, when you wake up you tell it you are awake and it tells you how long you have slept for and how restless it

Are zinc supplements causing constipation?
As I was reminded by a recent trip to the GP recently, just because something is known to be a symptom of hypothyroidism doesn't mean that it is... I started taking a fairly low dose zinc supplement (10 mg / day) a couple of weeks ago as so many members here had recommended it to support thyroid function

Patches of dry skin on face
During the last few months I've developed dry skin on my face. There is a particularly resistant patch near my mouth that doesn't seem to be responding to my usual creams or to coconut oil which I've used as a last resort. Does anyone have any ideas please? I'm taking T3, B12, B Complex, Krill Oil, iron

Seafood: Keeping It Healthy & Safe
From our blog at cookforyourlife.org, written by Alexandra Rothwell, MPH, RD, CSO, CDN During the spring and summer months, if we’re not indulging in lobster rolls or moules frites, many of us feel more naturally inclined to eat lighter fresh foods from seasonal produce and seafood. Shellfish, such

Health Benefits Of Pistachios [Pista]
Pistachios [Pista] appear strange and delicious, and available almost in every store. Pistachio is the healthiest snack ever, which boost metabolism, lowers cholesterol and slows down ageing. They deserve a special place in our diet because of the benefits that we will gain if we consume pistachios
