Explainer: how do you get shingles and who should be vaccinated against it?
'Shingles occurs due to a reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus that lies dormant in the skin nerve roots after causing the childhood disease chickenpox (varicella) decades earlier. Shingles typically shows up as a painful, blistering skin rash in a band of skin supplied by a single nerve

Hello everyone I have suddenly got a swelling on my right eyelid on a blood vessel. I can have bruises there but never had this and wondered has anyone else?. The same eye does water first thing in a morning then stops. It can also feel itchy and be red. I've recently had my eyes tested and all is healthy

Flu jab yes or no?
I am due to have a flu jab, at my own request, through my doctors surgery but without specific advice from a GP. I seem to remember a previous discussion on this forum where the consensus seemed to be go for it. I can't seem to locate it. I am reducing Pred. And am on 12.5mgs. I feel pretty rough, not

Flu jab
Hi all, for the record, I got my annual flu vaccine last week. The wonderful pharmacist explained that the substance used in the shot is not live virus. The major issue with PMR and prednisone users is that the desired immune response may be less than optimal, given the immunosuppressive action of pred

Frequent and painful urination
Hi, I`m new here, thanks for having me! My partner is diagnosed with bladder cancer and has been having BCG weekly (since early September this year). This has had to be suspended because for the last few weeks he`s been peeing almost constantly (so much that he can only leave the house for short periods

Flu vaccine and sweats
Diagnosed 2 years ago, on WandW and other than occasional day and night sweats, not really all that bothered by it. Even had a reduction on my Ly numbers. However, it's flu vaccination time and so had it on Friday. During Friday night I was having horrendous sweats of super strength and these have continued

Refused annual flu jab.
Hello I'm new to this sight and needed to say I am very disappointed with my GP right now. A year ago I saw a rheumatologist who said I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, and to cut a long story short he sent me a letter to confirm this and also put in the letter that it is recommended that I have

Flu jab - get before 11am!
Hi, I read an article in the paper in April that said test research had shown flu jab efficacy to be greatest when administered before 11am. I made a note in my phone and plan to get mine tomorrow before 11am.

Flu jab?
Anyone know if you're eligible for the flu jab if you're on hydroxychloroquine? I.e. does it count as an immunosuppressant? Last year I paid for the flu jab privately as I wasn't diagnosed with anything at the time or on any serious medication, and I'll do that again if I'm not eligible on the NHS, but
