Side effects from Urso?
Hello. I just started taking a divided dose of 1000mg of ursodiol. While I hadn't been exactly well for several months, the Urso seems to have made matters much worse. Has anyone else suffered terrible gastrointestinal distress when beginning to take this medication? I do take several other medications

Newly diagnosed & started Urso
Hello. I have recently been diagnosed with PBC; a disease I'd never heard of until now. I'm thankfully in stage 1 with just inflammation and a little fibrosis of the small ducts and hope to maintain that level for the duration. I do seem to be rather old (nearly 60) for an initial diagnosis and wonder

Great News :)
So I went to see my specialist last week for my follow up appointment (had blood work done a week in advance). I've been on URSO (3pills in morning) since Apr 21st. My numbers have pretty much been cut in half! so my AMA etc numbers are all down about 50%. That's a HUGE improvement as they've been HIGH

On the itching,....
Hi there everyone. I was diagnosed with PBC 18 years ago through a random blood test. Was quite surprised to say the least. I had no symptoms. That's when i was 45yrs old. I was offered the URSO, but wanted to wait till i was showing symptoms first. After all those years in the care of a liver specialist

"PBC in remission" - any other experiences please?
Helllo all Would be very grateful to hear of others experiences. Can PBC be "in remission"? I've always understood that it was a one-way process in which progressive damage took place to the bile ducts and there ain't no way of stopping it, and the jury is still out on whether urso slows it down

Has anyone not been helped by Urso?
First of all, I started this post and lost it. I hope it doesn't post twice. If so, I apologize. I was diagnosed in January with PBC - sort of. Short version - two years ago my lfts sky-rocketed with no warning. Had no idea of the reasoning. Repeated the test immediately to see if it was just a mistake

Edema anyone?
Wondering if anyone has experience with edema (swelling, fluid retention) in the legs and belly. I've had quite a bit over the past 10-15 days and am quite discouraged. I've gained around 15-20 pounds. My GI doctor suggested a salt restricted diet and compression stockings (miserable in the southern

Fibroscan results! 😀
Hi everyone, I just wanted to share my good news. I had a fibroscan today and the normal reading is 7 or below...well I had mine today and the reading was 3. I am so relieved, it seems as though the urso is working and my herbal and probiotic milk drink is helping my liver to be ok. I'm now on annual

Had my biopsy.
I had my biopsy yesterday, it was uncomfortable as I expected, I had to lay mostly on my back and my arm over my head, they took the liver sample between my lower part of my ribs just around my side towards my back. It was all over with half hour with the prep etc. The noise was the sound of a kids gun

Horrible dilemma update!
So, i saw the Hepatologist at St James in Leeds. I,m glad that i asked for a hepatology referral, as i was finding that gastroenterologists were not so specialised. I had a fibroscan -only took 1 minute! This showed stage 1 fibrosis, and the doctor said that my LFT's have come down a little now, so i

Cholesterol
Hi all, my doctor wants me to take statins because my cholesterol is - non fasting, 8. I heard that PBC caused high cholesterol and that taking Urso would solve that problem. I really really don't want to take statins - anyone else with the same problem? Thanks Kandypat

Blood Tests
How often should I have my blood tested in a year? Now attend nurse led clinic once a year instead of liver specialist. Bloods referred to at last appointment were a year old and no request to have more done. Back to clinic in August and GP surgery say they must receive a request from the hospital before

Horrible dilemma
I,ve been prescribed urso, but haven't started it. I emailed the manufacturer to ask them exactly where they sourced it from, as i,m a strict vegan. The answer was is that they source it from cattle from the slaughter house. If i decide not to take it, does anyone know of alternatives, or what the result

Symptom of PBC or URSO?
Hi - This may be a bit TMI but I'm wondering if this additional gas and flatulence is caused by the URSO or is this a symptom of the PBC. I haven't had the diarriah but a lot of gas. it's so uncomfortable. Each day I take my 3 URSO pills, 2 fibre pills, reactine (for the itch) I need this constant

Questran
Hello, I've been itching more since February when I think I had a virus, my asthma so kicked off and I'm more fatigued. Consultant this week put me on increased urso and also prescribed Questran for the itch. I'm just wondering if anyone else is on it? Do you find it helps?

Newly Diagnosed
Hi - I had written a post introducing myself the day after I was diagnosed, but I can't find it anywhere, so I'm thinking I must have done it wrong. Anyway, I'm Rebecca. I'm 41 and a single mom with a 9 yr old boy. I have had high (flagged HI) liver numbers since 2010 and I brought to three famly dr's
