Does anyone know if I'll be ok taking vitamin B complex. Obviously have PBC early stages no Cirrhosis on 500mg of urso.
Thanks in advance for any advice 😊

I have a vitamin B12 injection every 3 months. I think it has been caused by the constant use of acid inhibitors. I used to suffer from reflux. I have been tested for coeliac and pernicious anaemia both proved negative.
Have you been tested to see if you are vitamin B deficient?
I do take Vitamin D (self administered although GP knows) and some say Vitamin K should be taken with it. Trouble is not knowing and in the UK do not know how to get tested other than through GP.
hope this is helpful
High I woulds ask your GP as mine told me not to waste my money on them as if needed he would give me an injection. He did say they were a waste of time and money but he did not say they would not do me harm and if it made me feel better to carry on taking them, so make of that what you will, I stopped and don't feel any difference to be honest. I do take vitamin D3 though and Biotin.
Hello Louedwards.
Personally I'd not undertake any supplements unless you know they are required. At the end of the day as I see it it is more for the digestion system to deal with and they might not be necessary.
I did several years ago have all my vitamins and minerals checked by bloods as the GP stated so but the only one in my case that was found to be a bit low (and just under normal) was the ferretin count so I had a a short course of iron tablets and everything checked out OK 3mths later.
My cause for buying vitamins/minerals is that they often contain various fillers and I think it can be these that can cause a few digestive issues. I've had urso that has had various fillers in the chalky like white tablets since diagnosis and found that one in particular caused pretty bad heartburn that persisted so I had a change of the urso. I did note the fillers each time from the patient info leaflets and in my estimation if one brand doesn't cause this then it cannot be the actual active ingredients (urso in this case) but perhaps something else like forming the tablets.
Thanks for replys. I won't bother. Just I used to take before diagnosis. Just stick with urso and vitamin E. Vitamin E is for help with menopause. But specialist said this was ok as it helps with the liver. Odd paracetamol for aches and pains. Sorted. For now 😊
I currently take a B Complex, Biotin and Vitamin D. My hepatologist is aware of this (the vitamin D is prescribed) and had no problem with them. He did mention that vitamin B3/Niacin can cause itching in some patients and that he was not a fan of herbs or supplements for PBC patients, since the actual contents are poorly controlled in the US.
My gastroenterologist recommended taking an over the counter vitamin, just to make sure that it has vitamins A, D, E and K. Have been taking them since my diagnosis in 2009, along with the Ursodiol. Am doing well.
