Avodart when off ADT a mistake?
If one is trying to prevent prostate cancer cells from becoming insensitive to ADT, then is it wise to continue dutasteride while on the off cycle? If per Snuffy most of the support for PC cells comes from DHT not T, then just as stopping T reduces the DHT, is not dutasteride acting in a similar way

PCP Pneumonia Prophylaxis
I went to my first rheumatologist visit on November 21. Had been on 60 mg prednisone since October 15. She told me I now have essentially no working immune system, and am at high risk for Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP). She started me on Bactrim (TMP/SMX) 3 times weekly as prophylaxis. I did a quick search

Another step towards a universal flu vaccine. Building a better flu shot.
Each year millions of Americans become sick with the flu, hundreds of thousands are hospitalized and tens of thousands die. Getting the flu shot can reduce the chances of infection. But, at best, the vaccine is only effective 40% to 60% of the time, according to the CDC. Now Michigan State University

Infections & Imraldi
Hi everyone, Have not posted for quite a time. Primarily a very awkward house move, followed by a water infection with subsequent kidney infection. On advice from my Rheumatoid nurse, the hospital & my GP I came off both methotrexate & imraldi biologic immediately. Just as I was feeling better, I suddenly

Can anyone give me their opinion on what it feels like physically to have hypothyroidism
I feel like I’m always fighting a flu with body aches and shooting pains. Like when you have a bad infection or flu and I’m trying to see how many others suffer from the same feelings. My TSH is 6.70.

Flu jab
I have GPA and just finished my course of cyclophosphamide. Feeling a lot better now. Just started Azathioprine which is being increased. I would like to know if it is recommended to have the dead flu virus injection? Thank you

Should you have TWO flu jabs this winter? It seems the trusted injection wears off faster than we think.
Earlier this year, Professor Stanley Plotkin, a pioneer of vaccines, revealed that he has two flu jabs. The 87-year-old, from the University of Pennsylvania, has one in early autumn, followed by another in December each year. The reason? The trusted flu jab, it seems, wears off far faster than we think

Painful pulled abdominal muscles
I’m currently 30+6 weeks pregnant, have been suffering a really bad cold virus which saw me sent to hospital to have various tests done as my heart rate was abnormally high. Anyway, after ruling out things like pneumonia & flu, I was sent home with antibiotics to take if I didn’t see improvement within

Hospital Consultant appointment
Good Morning all you lovely people, thought I would update you. We went last Wednesday for John’s 6 monthly visit to his consultant. We were glad because he had become more breathless in the last few weeks and started taking steroids again which didn’t seem to work. Amazingly he said John had pneumonia

To Go or Not To Go
Well; here it is flu and cold season and Thanksgiving is almost here in the US. I'm supposed to fly next Tuesday to see family and the airline has said expect a wait of 2-1/2 hours to get through security. My daughter's husband is not feeling well, my daughter has a cold and she has three little girls

APS, pregnancy and getting the flu shot?
Hi Everyone I hope you are all well. Well, I've made it to 12 weeks and all was looking positive so far on my last scan this week - baby is measuring 12 weeks, 4 days and had a strong heartbeat. I have now been discharged from the recurrent miscarriage clinic back to my local hospital and have my first

Persistent tickly cough
I have a persistent tickly cough. I've had anti biotics but the cough just comes back again after a few weeks. It's particularly bad at night. I used to find that pholcodeine cough mixture helped, but I've been told that I shouldn't take it because it is not compatible with the warfarin Im on for PAF

What to wear for runs in cold weather?
I usually overheat easily and so far I managed to get away with a T-shirt and knee-long leggings. Alas, today's run proved that it is getting a bit too cold even for me 😁 What clothes do you wear for a run when it gets cold?

I hate feeling cold!
Hi everyone! Is it just me, or does anyone feel the cold that much, it is almost like a burning sensation and does it make them go sleepy? also makes me want to wee more as well. (sorry TMI) For the last few years, each year has got me more sensitive to the cold. You would think someone had stuck me

For some reason my blood pressure has shot up. I am already taking 50 mgs of Atenolol for raised blood pressure but this in in the danger zone with no apparent cause. The GP has arranged various Cardio tests, blood, kidneys within the next couple of weeks, having been alerted by my Rheumatologist last
