My LG has got a cold and cough, her cough is horrible, dry and starting to sound chesty. Giving her cough medicine, but I don’t know if it’s doing anything. When should I see GP, just worried as Christmas next week and don’t want it too get worse

Take her to put her mind at rest. As long as she’s eating / drinking and not lethargic and pretty much seems ok then she should be fine you can also usual give calpol with cough mixture so that may help x

Yea il see how she is tomorrow, if not any better il try get GP appointment. Have been given her calpol in morning and bedtime along with cough medicine. She’s eating fine, as for fluids, she hasn’t drunk milk for

2 weeks only in food she will have it, drinking plenty of fluids though and lots of yogurts, fruit purées x

Does she drink water? X

Yea, she has around 4-5ozs of water a day, we give her vitamins for the milk lose and manage to give her around 8ozs of milk hidden in food x

I think she will be ok she seems to be eating and drinking and if she’s overall ok in herself I think it will pass it’s like all of us when don’t feel well we eat and drink less my LG had a cough and it’s still there a little now but I think it’s all linked to teething dr said if she’s eating drinking and not lethargic which she wasn’t and she’s ok. You can try steam like make a bathroom steamy that meant to help x

She’s had ear infection aswell bless her, but she’s herself, bit more clingy and cry’s more. But when I have a cold, I could cry and just wanna stay in pyjamas all day lol. We have got that calpol plug in thing, so I’m hoping it will pass. Just don’t want her too still have it over Christmas, will give it couple of days, if haven’t improved, will take her too doctors. Just feel silly and wasting they time though x

Always better to put your mind at rest in case. Sometimes the calpol nasal spray can help and some baby vicks as well xx

Obviously if you are concerned about her, book an appointment but as long as she doesn’t have any signs of distress with her breathing, a temperature that won’t go down with calpol, or signs of dehydration I can’t think of what the GP would offer tbh.

I think it’s quite normal for a dry cough to become a bit more chesty before it clears and I don’t think there’s any medical evidence that cough syrup has any effect at all. I actually know people who have felt it made their LOs cough worse!

Best things are to keep doing what you’re doing - fluids, calpol, sitting in a steamed up room for a bit and lots of cuddles til she feels better. There’s so much of this going around at the moment 😔 Hope she’s feeling better for her first Christmas! x

A little update. I took LG to doctors today and she has bad ear infection, doctor wasn’t worried about cough, but did say too keep eye on it and if gets worse then too come back.

I’m glad I went, as she seems too be in quite a bit of pain with her ear.

I hate seeing her ill and upset all the time, I want my happy little girl back x
