I have spent the last couple of months trying to get my asthma and asthma cough under control. I am finically feeling like I’m winning and I am given my flu Jab and now have a cold!
My airways are narrow and full of mucus and this morning I could hardly get air in. I was so scared. I am waiting for doc to call me back.
I wondered if anyone had any advice to try and keep airways a bit clearer.
I was told that when I had a cold I should double up on my preventer. I do this & fortunately have never had a problem.
Don’t underestimate how useful a steam inhalation can be. If you have any Olbas oil or menthol to drop in too then even better. Wishing you a speedy recovery x

Just be aware that for some it’s (steam/vicks/olbas oil) a asthma trigger so if you feel yourself tightening... 😅

I do steam (even with the warning 😅). Also mustard baths are good cause no smell to trigger... its old fashioned but I’ve found it really does help... carbocisteine if this a chronic issue (ie constant colds causing too much mucus triggering asthma etc) can be really good at breaking down the gunk (another thing I use but only short term). Have also found echinacea tablets (for mine in savers) can shorted/reduce a cold...

Warm bath with mustard powder in it. Good for muscle aches, coughs and colds!

Going to try this. Not got gunk as such but just that nasal drip and blockage. Plus the adage muscle relaxation sounds good. Thanks for suggestion
I'd agree with advice given, increase your preventer take your reliever and do some steam inhalation. If colds are a regular problem and aggravating your asthma may be an idea to talk about other types of medication. I've been on Montelukast since January and have had no major colds and no asthma episodes.
I always had terrible asthma when i got a cold, about 20 years ago i found out by chance that house dust mites were my main allergy, I have no carpets or soft furnishings now, I use a hepa filter type hover and have anti mite bedding and have had only 2 asthma attacks since then and colds no longer cause an asthma flare up.
I have had this problem my whole life. The answer for me was taking 50 mg of hydrocortison 3 times a day for the duration of the cold, 3 to 8 days, and then taper off over 3 or 4 days. When the cold is over my lungs are normal. Do not do this without talking to your Doctor. good luck
Marshmalow root may be helpful for getting rid of stubborn mucous. I'd go for a tincture rather than a tea or caps.
Hi Jessieg167, i had the same problem, such an horrific dose, my chest never made so many noises, high temperature of 101.74f. Started drinking lemon and ginger with a very good raw honey, ie manuka (I used heather) locally produced. I drank this 3 times a day but the ginger is the one which helps your lungs. In fact I read somewhere that it can be as good as an inhaler. For 5 days I coukdn't get out of bed. I thought of ringing an ambulance to take me to A & E but what woukd they do for me and I might end up worse lying on a trolley. I coukdn't go to my gp cos I was too weak. Anyway after5 days I didn't feel so bad so went to my doc and he gave me antibiotics which are now starting to kick in. Honey, ginger and lemon are the only way to go when your chest is tight. I saw don on Monday and gave me some antibiotics and I have to go for a chest X-ray this afternoon. I am starting to ease but so drained and everything hurts from the coughing. Xx
