Tired, but happier!
Hi, fantastic news. Different consultant came today, they've arranged Ralph's care to be taken over by cardiac department, so he can stay in chesterfield all the time. Friday update
Hardly surprising Ralph was a little bit down this morning. When I asked him a few weeks ago if he knew all this would happen, would he still do it he said yes because otherwise he could have dropped dead. He said if I asked him today his answer would be different and he'd have come home even if he only

Update
Ralph is no worse than yesterday but looks like he'll be in another 3-6 months. Has paralysis of vocal chords... temporary hopefully... But can't have cuff down on tracheotomy because of it as secretions go into lungs instead of stomach. So not looking at it again for 6 weeks to see if swelling goes

Moving the right way
Ralph was good this morning, not out of bed because he'd already had some work done, they changed the tracheotomy tube for a smaller one. Drs did their rounds and are going to tell SALT to not do the other tube through the nose and shock as they think in a few days it may not be necessary. His secretions

Excessive Sleeping
My husband was diagnosed in early 2020 with MSA. The decline was rapid - he is now on PEG for feeds, intermittent urine catheter, flatus tube for bowel movement, and a tracheotomy with ventilator on at night He has speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy that fills up his days However

Not sure what to feel
Ralph doing well again. However, I've just rung since I got home, and consultant and ENT been round. They've studied the scan he had on Tuesday, and think he may have had a slight stroke in the 2 weeks he was unconscious after the op. He had about 6 scans in Sheffield, no Idea how they missed it. Don't

Okay so far
Ralph great this morning, (Tuesday ) off ventilator and on an oxygen mask....which isn't on his face, it's plugged in to his tracheotomy, he's doing well with that. Consultant came around while I was there, she was going to arrange for a CT scan of his head and neck to check secretions and if there could

On the up, hopefully
Ralph is doing well.....I daren't be too optimistic....off the ventilator most of the time, doing arm and leg exercises again, some standing and pulling himself up so they can move him from the bed to the chair and back again. They wheeled his bed out into the garden for his ward yesterday, so he had

Update on me
Before I go to visit Ralph this morning, thought I'd write a bit about me. I rang this morning to see how his first night was, he'd vomited a little which she said was due to the stress of the move, but then he was fine and slept well. Last night was the first decent sleep I've had since his operation

Different hospital
They moved Ralph from Sheffield to Chesterfield today. They rang just as I was about to leave for Sheffield. He's on High dependency ward. Easier for me to visit. Still intensive care, and back on ventilator as well as tracheotomy but they've already reduced some numbers in a couple of hours. Obviously

Possibly DNR chat
The goal is now
tracheostomy
, but it’s a balance of her oxygen requirement being low enough and then ensuring the blood clot is under control so they can reduce the thinners before surgery. Sorry, not that brief after all. But the mention of DNR has thrown me a little.

Why?!
Ralph is back lightly sedated with a tube down his throat. Too many secretions he can't get rid of, so he couldn't breathe. Back on antibiotics as well. We've come away, probably do tracheotomy on Monday. Dr says he's back to square one and there were two drs and a nurse looking serious and hooking

I don't know why I post!
Just rang as we aren't visiting until 1pm. He's back on ventilator and they will put tracheotomy back in over the weekend, so he's going nowhere . Sadly new update, back on ventilator and the tracheotomy going back in, too mad secretions and he couldn't clear them. They were going to leave him with

Amazing, surprising day
Ralph good today and they'd put a speaker button on his tracheotomy, so could speak a bit. Said they'll see how he goes today and tomorrow then maybe out on Sunday. I rang when I got home and they've taken the tracheotomy out at 1.30 after I left. He panicked a little from the shock, but is fine now

Update
He's doing okay, he's now got a patch behind his ear to dry up secretions in his throat, then in a few days.... fingers crossed.... should/may be able to remove tracheotomy. That's the plan Dr told us this morning. He's still tired of course, but he just listens to everything they say without looking

Anyone know anything about this?
He's bright enough but tired. They took the cuff down but he only last 30 seconds, where before it came out he was up to 20 minutes. His confidence has gone. Dr came and said don't lower cuff again today, he has another infection, so needs antibiotics and meds to sort BP again as infection interferes

Ups and downs!
Can't make it up! He went on commode last night and his tracheotomy fell out! Obviously not planned, he panicked and was in a state, they had to put him to sleep to put it back in and he's back on the ventilator. They'll be round later today to assess him and if he's ready for a planned removal, but

Update on hubby
He's still in cicu but in the bay opposite where he was He's off ventilator but still got tracheotomy in as they want him on oxygen machine 24 hours before they take it out. He did some physio while I was there, standing and walking on the spot. I took him a couple of pens and he can hold it and write

Another update
Hubby is doing okay. Ventilator numbers still down, should be off it by about Wednesday. They have to lower it by 1 every day. He is breathing on his own now, only got it to kick in if he stops. Fingers crossed by next weekend he can get the tracheotomy out.Physio worked him hard today and she says
