Okay so far

Ralph great this morning, (Tuesday ) off ventilator and on an oxygen mask....which isn't on his face, it's plugged in to his tracheotomy, he's doing well with that. Consultant came around while I was there, she was going to arrange for a CT scan of his head and neck to check secretions and if there could be a problem with his swallowing, which we're all sure there isn't as he's getting water round his mouth with a brush and then swallowing and was doing the same with OJ the other day. They took him at 4 for the scan and some was okay, but they couldn't do the contrast scan as he had a reaction to that in Sheffield. So they're going to try to do an MRI tomorrow, but need to check if he has any metal ties in him first😨

If all goes to plan he'll have the Botox injection soon. They're also going to change the actual tube in the tracheotomy to a smaller one, without putting him to sleep as it's a smaller one going in and the consultant said there'll be plenty of them holding his hands and reassuring him. He's understandably a little bit anxious, but happy enough

He was back in bed by the time I got there today as I was at the drs this morning, but he'd been out in the chair, done some standing and walked 3 or 4 steps with the zimmer.

They've just moved him out of his isolation room onto the ward, so he'll have a bit more to look at.

xx

Hi Sue. That’s certainly sounds both positive and moving in the right direction. And great that they are moving him into a ward. Hopefully he’ll get more interaction with other people. Please keep us updated and we will continue to think about you both

The isolation room was on the HDU ward, but he had to be there 6 days as he came from another hospital. He could see other people through his window, lol, but now he's out there with him. I'll have to search for him today 😂

Good news he seems to have found the right pathway now. I am so pleased he will be moved to a ward soon having other patients around is going to help him in so many ways. Keep up the good work Ralph x

It's still HDU ward, just isolation as he came from another hospital, making sure he hadn't brought any nasty bugs with him x

Yes I thought it may be but I think when you are with other patients it makes you more aware of every little success you have and it will be something new everyday to look at x

it was the move to a general HDU ward that changed everything for Dad. A wonderful man named Chris (fellow heart patient) was just what he needed and what started as general chitchat progressed to lively discussion/debate over the following month. Gave Dad his fight back in a way Mum and I had been unable to achieve. Signs of improvement again. Very positive xx

Morning Sue, welcome news that he is continuing on his path to slow and sure improvement. great that he is able to take a few steps now and I'm sure that the move into a ward will help his mood very hard not to dwell on stuff when you are alone and nothing to distract you. We all love to people watch lol. best wishes :)

Hi Sue, that's brilliant news, that hopefully will lift his and your spirit especially when you next see him on a ward and not isolated in a room. So good to see he's walked a little too. Am hoping for a nice steady recovery for Ralph and much needed relief for you that he's finally on the mend. Big gentle hugs to both of you :-) xx
