Hubby is doing okay. Ventilator numbers still down, should be off it by about Wednesday. They have to lower it by 1 every day. He is breathing on his own now, only got it to kick in if he stops. Fingers crossed by next weekend he can get the tracheotomy out.Physio worked him hard today and she says once he's off all machines and tubes, he'll have go down to PCU and they'll work with him there. Once tracheotomy is out and he can swallow he'll be able to eat and drink and get his voice back. He's been on diruetics as his hands and feet were so swollen. I brought his wedding ring home. I'm taking it back in now the swelling is gone. He put his thumbs up and nodded his head so much I thought it would come off, lol

Hello :-)

So many of us looking out for your updates and what a fantastic update this is :-)

He is now doing so well I have to smile when I read his doing :-)

Sounds like all the staff etc are doing a fantastic job with your Husband working so hard with them to it will not be long till he is enjoying a nice cup of tea :-)

I am so glad he has also got to a stage where you can take him his wedding ring I can imagine how much that will mean to him to have it back on where it belongs :-)

From the start of your posts and how poorly he was to where he is now is an inspiration and will give hope to others if they ever find themselves in this position so thank you again for sharing with us and of course I hope you are looking after you to :-)

I look forward to your next update :-) x

thank you for updating us again :) I also look for your updates everyday and am so pleased that it is good news again. It must of been so hard for you but will all be worth him when you have him back home xx

in reply toweepip

I'm hoping he's home by Easter at the end of March, especially as there won't be buses for a couple of days 😞

weepip in reply to

Im sure once he gets all the tubes away he will surprise you with how quickly he progresses he sounds like a fighter :)

devonian186 profile image

How will he get home? By ambulance? He will want as easy a trip as possible.

in reply todevonian186

Think it will be at least another 5 weeks, he can't walk yet, and he'll need to be off ventilator before that can happen. Guessing we'll pay for a taxi, unless they do allow patient transport.

Digger0 profile image
Digger0 in reply to

I would hope they allow patient transport!

in reply toDigger0

Depends, we don't live in the same county. It's only 30 miles away but different ambulance service

Digger0 profile image
Digger0 in reply to

They should allow it. Sheffield is a specialist hospital and he was transferred there for treatment.

devonian186 profile image
devonian186 in reply to

I can just imagine him on the bus complete with ventilator!

If there is a "friends' of the hospital they may be able to arrange transport, or it is not unknown to be taken home by Ambulance. Glad he is improving and congratulations on your silver anniversary. Is he aware of the date?

in reply todevonian186

Yes he knows. It'll be at least a month after ventilator removal before he comes home x

Digger0 profile image
Digger0 in reply to

Even if he is not home full time by Easter, they may let him have weekend leave!

in reply toDigger0

No, they won't do that. If he can get the tracheotomy out by next weekend, he'll go to the intermediate ward and physio can really get cracking with him

Every time I read you messages I think back to your original ones - then I think of how much you’ve both been through and thank my lucky stars my current family members are all ok. It’s usually me who’s ill but I couldn’t cope on the other side (if my husband were to go through what yours has & to have been in your position - both of you are so brave 🤗

What a super way your hubby chose to say ‘I love you’! Nowt wrong with his brain and he obviously realises how much you love him. Your updates are wonderful to read and I’m beginning to relax the finger crossing - just not uncrossing them til I read he’s talking, eating, drinking and laughing.

It's lovely to read your latest post. Thrilled to hear of your hubby's ongoing recovery. Your house is cleaner than mine, and after ALL you've been through!! Bless both your valiant hearts, and the medics who are so Incredible. I hope you're treating yourself to some nice spring flowers if you see any in passing? Hyacinths? Daffodils? Sending love and ongoing best wishes. You've given many of us, in the waiting room, much courage and inspiration, as have other kindly, supportive souls who've encouraged you. Thank you to all of you. I have my pre-op apt on 27th, so feeling grateful, whilst trying to keep the unknown at bay and just be brave and get on with it.

Wishing you both a Blessed Silver Anniversary on 27th. Keep the champagne on ice, it'll be all the more special to enjoy after your epic journeys! Sending love ❤️ ❤️

Brilliant to read of Mr Castleview’s progress. It is fabulous that he is getting such good care in the hospital , that together with his positive mindset and your huge support,, it is all in combination working to get him back on his feet.

Lovely to read your update, Castleview. Taking hubby's wedding ring home must have been heartbreaking--there were so many unknowns at the time. And now, such wonderful progress!

I hope hubby is free of the tracheotomy soon; you'll never shut the lad up once he starts talking again. Which will be brilliant.

Bless you both 🙏💐☺️

I look out for your post every day and I’m so pleased things are heading in the right direction now. When he’s ready to come home I suggest if you can afford it, you hire a taxi. The problem with hospital ambulance transport is that it often doesn’t pick up until late and then may have to go all round the houses dropping people off. This happened with my sisters husband who had been in ICU for several months. He got home at 11pm! The other possibility is to enquire if your area has a voluntary car service that can help. Ask at your GP or the CAB.

in reply toWanderinglady

We'll get a taxi when the time comes x

Brilliant news. He'll be running around in no time and because he's healed quite a bit over the past few weeks, he'll be more comfortable at home.

You're an inspiration to all partners out there. People going through similar trauma will be heartened by the way you've managed to cope with all of this. Usually we'd be telling you to buy a V shaped pillow to prop him up in bed at home (if hubby had had none of these complications and was home within a week after the op).

Give hubby a hug (gentle) from us and tell him he's a marvel and has a lovely wife!

All the very best to you all. Jan xxxxx

Sorry my reply is a little late, it's so heartwarming about the wedding ring 💕. I feel like I almost actually know the pair of you. Thank you for giving us hope Castleview and can't wait to hear how your anniversary goes, I know it's going to be one of the most special days of both your lives. All the to your husband and he has my utmost admiration for the fight he had and is winning I'm happy to say. You are indeed a very special and inspirational couple. Another good update. It'll be great once the tracheotomy is out. That must feel uncomfortable for him and frustrating not being able to speak or eat. But tell him to control that head nodding he has enough to contend with without his head falling off too. 😉
