Can't make it up! He went on commode last night and his tracheotomy fell out! Obviously not planned, he panicked and was in a state, they had to put him to sleep to put it back in and he's back on the ventilator. They'll be round later today to assess him and if he's ready for a planned removal, but probably not. He was very distressed last night and depressed about it this morning. They let me speak to him and I said it's just a blip and he'll be okay and I'll see him tomorrow. Nurse said he was nodding and putting thumbs up.I said I'll call back mid afternoon, but if there's anything I should know can they please call me.
Not exactly sure how it can just fall out? Nurse had no idea either as obviously she wasn't there last night. He's going to be even more anxious and wary about it being removed now
I certainly think if there was an award for the most ups and downs in recovery your Husband could possibly be in first place but the positive is he does get back up again thank goodness even though everyone's nerves must be shattered by now and it will have frightened him as well as making him feel depressed but this Nurses will help get his confidence back
How he fell out of bed well I am not sure how that happened either a mystery
Do they have bars at the side of the bed they put up maybe if not that is the kind of bed he needs and I would mention it
He will feel anxious but they will all be there supporting him and the anxiety won't last long and he will be back up again
Thank you for the update even though not one we wanted to hear but will be waiting for the next one which hope is positive again in the meantime as I know you will do keep reassuring him x
Hi Castleview, I just read yesterday's update and saw this one at the same time. That's a strange one, I didn't think the tubes could fall out they usually need to be taken out by hand. I can't imagine how you both must be feeling right now, he's nerves must be in shreds along with yours. But it's good he's still giving hand signals and that. He'd come so far and yesterday post was lovely to read. I'm sorry this setback has happened, but I'm hoping and praying he bounces back like the fighter he's shown himself to be. I understand to an extent how you feel regarding someone being in hospital and the up and down journey that goes with it. Hoping the removal can go ahead and for him to well enough. Really rooting (not sure of the spelling) for the pair of you 🤞💕 x
So sorry it happened just as he'd improved enough to have it officially removed by his team there. Hope when you call there today that everything is ok and he manages to carry on the healing as he had been doing. Give him our best wishes too and hoping you are ok Castleview 🤞🙏x
Im sorry to hear of this setback. It must of been really scary for him and will have knocked his confidence ,hopefully when he starts to improve again they will be able to remove it properly. Fingers crossed for good news tomorrow xx
What a nasty shock for him, it must have been quite scary. Overall though maybe just a little setback considering how much progress he has made. Glad the staff were all on the ball and managed the situation swiftly. Fingers crossed for better news when you ring again later.
Could it fall out due to weight loss? You are right though it is a’ blip’. When visiting someone in ICU over weeks or months is the biggest rollercoaster journey from day to day. I am so glad you are telling this group and not keeping it all inside, I hope your next visit will be a good one again xx
Some things simply shouldn't happen in hospital. Your poor hubby, and you. What a nasty shock, desperately upsetting for you both. Wishing hubby a speedy return to good progress and recovery.
You will know by now how hubby has coped today, so fingers crossed that all is now back on track and that he feels less fearful. Thinking of you, 🤞💕🙏
Trachy tubes are quite short and if the fixing comes loose they fall out easily. It happens. Getting up to the commode probably finally dislodged it. Scary for him. I used to work in neonatal icu ..tubes dislodging were common place with wriggly wee babies ..
Oh my word your poor Man. That must of been so scary for him & no wonder it's set him back. The nurses are amazing & I'm sure they'll be able to reassure him & lift him up again. I hope he's feeling better asap & his recovery is back on track. X
I can’t imagine how you felt hearing that and no wonder he panicked. You feel like everything is progressing and then as if the universe is out to get you. It will make him nervous I’m sure and the difficulty in verbal communication can’t help. He’s taken 1000 steps forward and hopefully this is just a tiny temporary step backwards.
Sending much love (as always) and we’re all here if you need us xx
hi sorry to hear that there are ups and downs. Try not to worry. Tubes can fall out as the tapes that hold them in are Velcro and the movement can cause them to be dislodged.
Hopefully they will be able to remove it in a controlled manner so your hubby does not get anxious by this.
Sorry to hear Castleview, it must be difficult. Looking at other people's comments and you Google search, it seems strange they have to put him to sleep to get it back in. The anxiety I suppose. Hope he's ok again soon 🤞
Oh no your poor husband what a fright for him and you too It will have made him very nervous again It's another blip on his road to recovery but he will get there I have never heard of a trach falling out before
Hi I have been following your husband's journey and he seems to have been doing great recently, I am sure this will just be a minor setback and they will be able to take the tracheostomy out soon, no wonder he was upset he must have got such a fright when it fell out. I hope in the not too distant future he will be discharged to your local hospital and it will be so much easier and quicker for you to visit, take care char x
Hope this is just a glitch and that he gets his freedom back soon. Has anybody asked for TV rights to your story? 🙂Seriously, very best wishes to you and yours.
I can’t wait for the day when we get a post titled “from Castleview’s husband who is now recuperating at home”. You two could write a book. I love your posts and the love for your family shines through in every one. Take care of yourself too.
