Ralph is doing well.....I daren't be too optimistic....off the ventilator most of the time, doing arm and leg exercises again, some standing and pulling himself up so they can move him from the bed to the chair and back again. They wheeled his bed out into the garden for his ward yesterday, so he had some sun and fresh air, which he loved.
Still got secretions which is and always has been the stumbling block so he can cope with having the tracheotomy out. He has patches which is drying them a little, but they've made a decision to inject botox into his salivary glands, which doesn't sound pleasant, but if it works will be worth it I suppose.
He is feeling better in himself and has more confidence, so fingers crossed.
Thanks for taking the time to update. That’s certainly sounds positive. Hopefully he will get stronger every day 🙂 I also hope you are getting more of a rest ? You must be exhausted. Please pass on our regards to Ralph. All the best
Pleased Ralph had a change of scenery yesterday and saw some sunshine. A good day to do it when it was lovely & sunny but today it's cold and wet again 😔 It sounds as though he is being worked hard and that is reflected in his progress. Let's hope the botox improves him further.
Fabulous news he sounds as though he is doing very well and if they wheeled him outside he must be. Botox eh, he will be coming home with a stronger heart and a better looking face too, win win. So pleased x
Weight loss and Botox, you sure he’s in a hospital and not a spa? Not the recommended weight loss method though!
I’m glad to hear he’s rallying . I totally understand your concerns about the Botox injection after all he’s been through, I’ll keep my fingers crossed it works correctly and sorts out the problem. He’s due some good luck.
You made me giggle with the spa comment, I'm going to try to speak to someone without Ralph hearing, don't want to worry him more, but I need to know what else could be done. Trouble is I'll be visiting later than usual today as I've got my B12 jab and BP check....that should be interesting! Also going to get them to log my weight as well as I've lost loads as well x
Aw that is good news that he's doing better and felt the sunlight and air on his face. Sounds like the hospital move was the best the best thing to have happened. Got everything thing crossed for you both and praying he's stronger with each passing day 🤞🙏. Hope you are ok 💕 x
Is it going in salivary gland? Will secretions not dry on their own gradually? My dad had over active salivary gland but nothing was done, one side of his lower jaw used to swell as if mumps almost but used to subside on its own. I don't think they did the botox back then, it was 1990s. I've had botox for migraines that's about all the knowledge I have, it did work. Are they giving him some time to see how he gets on or have they given a date to go ahead with it?
It's been 7 weeks and he's had patches for 2 behind his ears, but not really working. This is what's causing the problem with getting the track out. ENT were supposed to come yesterday to decide, but will come today. Nurse said they've ordered the botox in case though. She said she'll have it for wrinkles if he doesn't have it. She doesn't have any. I'm a bit worried about the botox to be fair, with all the things that have gone wrong for him
I can only speak of the botox I had which was the head back of the neck, and atop of shoulders, 32 injections in total. It sounds worse than it feels. It did stop the skin tensing on the head couldn't tense it up. So hopefully it will stop the gland producing so much saliva for Ralph and give the relief needed while he gets on his feet. I can totally understand your apprehension though, but this hospital he's at now sounds to really know what their doing and he seems to be progressing further with far less setbacks than previous placement here. How does he feel about it?
Hi Sue thanks for letting us all know how you and Ralph are getting on . It sounds positive which is great news and so nice that they had him out in the sun I do believe nature is a great healer. Hopefully the botox will be the key to his recovery . My best wishes are with you both xx
You must be so tired emotionally & physically. 7 weeks is a long time. You look after yourself. Ralph must have loved being outside in the sunshine. Such heart warming news for you. Keep the good work up Ralph!! Thinking of you xxx
that is great news sue . You’ve both really been through the mill . I’m glad he enjoyed his stint in the garden . Your old man certainly sounds a fighter and hopefully by the summer , you’d be sitting in your own garden . Love as always
I am not surprised you’re tired , what a journey you are both travelling on. Glad things seem to be improving for Ralph . Going outside for some fresh air must have been a big boost for him and I’m sure they wouldn’t have chanced it if they didn’t think he was up to it. Lots of love ❤️
Very positive post. Take care of yourself. My daughter in law has BOTOX every 3 months into muscle in her neck for cervical dystonia ( no cure for it). They ease the pain sometimes. It is a neurological denegrative diseaseWishing ye both a Happy Peaceful Easter x x x
Such good news! It's lovely that he can get outside, that will be a huge healing help. Being stuck indoors drains the life out of me, sunlight and fresh air is best!
Some positive progress. How nice to be taken outside for a while. That must have been a lovely experience feeling fresh air. Sometimes little things like this give a bog boost. You take care of yourself. Best wishes. 🤞🏻❤️
Great news , he's come so far and much of his recovery is thanks to you and your support as well as the love you both clearly have for one another. So you both deserve congratulations for your bravery and your success .
Hopefully you will be able to have a lovely weekend at Easter and relax and enjoy yourself a little.
Hi that's lovely news that Ralph is more alert now and has been out in the fresh air, I hope everything goes well when ENT come around and if they use Botox all will be good. Char xx
Oh that's such encouraging news!! It sounds like he's turned a corner doesn't it. He seems to be getting stronger every day. Things just take time don't they, and we all heal and recover differently. Being in the fresh air must have been such a tonic for Ralph too..I know you are worried about the bottom. Has it been properly explained to you as to why they might be using it? I'm sure Ralph's recovery has had a lot to do with your positive spirit and love too!! Hang in there, he will soon be home with you. Take good care of yourself. Xx
it all sounds positive and going outside for a bit is excellent. A bit of sunshine is uplifting isn’t it? Amazing what they can use Botox for. Let us hope it works. X
Oh what wonderful news. I have been wondering how he was doing since the move. What a brilliant idea to get him outside in the fresh air. That will do him more good than any medicines. It's the one thing I longed for in hospital because in teh ward I was on they didn't even have opening windows. The botox injections sound horrible but worth it if it helps, Being indoors for so long doesn't help. I've been really bad now for 3 months but I can cough to clear it. NO infection just choked up. I have only been outside a couple of times, Fresh air really helps me. You must be feeling better yourself with the shorter journey and his improvement.
Everything crossed! Let's hope that the more Ralph exercises his body, the more the secretions will dry up. I bet he really enjoyed the sunshine and fresh air yesterday. xx
I can only continue to pray and send positive vibes to you..this is really a seldom difficult case and both you and Ralph are heroes with so much strength..I sincerely wish you both continued couradge as we would love one day to hear from Ralph...your love for eachother shines through.
