Stopping Rivaroxaban before surgery
I am on a joint Eye-ENT waiting list for a tear duct operation, which the surgeon told me is likely to be "very bloody". We discussed my anticoagulation at the clinic and she wrote to my GP afterwards, requesting that she advise me about stopping Rivaroxaban before surgery. Quite out of the blue, I

Pleural effusion
Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has had pleural effusion, it has taken me 3 months of constantly complaining to my doctor and rheumatologist of the pain I have in my right rib area when I take a deep breath sneeze or yawn. I am now being sent for a CT scan as the chest xray shows pleural effusion,

Just saying Hello
It's been a while since I've posted. Just wanted to say hello! It's been 3 months since my COPD diagnosis. My first and so far only exacerbation lasted a while. My doctor changed some meds. I have a new inhaler Anoro Ellipta that seems to work amazingly. He also prescribed Montelukast Sodium. Still doing

Need to say this about anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds.
There are many people who die from respiratory distress from taking these medications. Such as Celexa, Lexapro, Prozac, or Xanax, Klonopin, Valium., etc. They do suppress our breathing guys!! My husband and I ran across this while researching COPD. I fully realize the benefit one might have from

Water retention
I'm getting on ok with being put on warfarin because of a DVT and PE on my lung, but my left leg is massively swollen it's obviously something to do with water retention! Does anyone think it's to do with the drug I'm taking please.

Severe emphysema - my 6 monthly visit to Specialist
I'm pleased ... well, sort of! Had my appointment with the specialist this week and I was a bit scared about what they might see from my latest x-rays as it's been a year since the last one and I've been feeling more breathless recently. He was a replacement consultant as my previous lady had left.

I have severe empyema COPD. I've been refused any treatment on the nhs and spend 22hrs a day in or on bed, even the 5yards to the kitchen sees me gasping for breath. On oxygen 24/7, my brother rightly said I have no life just an existance! My wonderful partner does what he can and is an angel but life

I have had GAD, MDD, and Insomnia before COPD and have read about most medications for these conditions What helps you?
Some of the meds I take have shortness of breath as a side-effect. Benzos all have a risk I took Restoril for 2 days last week and couldn't breathe and had to go back on oxygen. I take a TCA for depression and they too cause SOB and SSRI's are better. Can anyone tell me what they are using for these

INR Crashing
My self checker showed me at 2.8 Thursday night, which means it was actually 2.3. They increased my warfrin to 10mg a day Friday, (so I'm one increased dose in, and today my INR is 2.2 meaning its 1.7. I called the emergency line and they have suggested I supplement with aspirin tonight every 4 hours

Lung volume reduction surgery
Hi everyone, I'm scheduled to have LVRS in June, and I'm wondering if anyone has gone through this, what benefits there were, and what the recovery in hospital was like. I'm feeling quite apprehensive, as it's a big operation. Hope someone can reassure me!

Cryotherapy - Lymphedema
I am the Head of Medical Engineering at a Northern NHS Trust - Lymphedema for personal and professional reasons is a subject close to my heart. I am evaluating new devices, very surprised at the controlled application of cold vapour in conjunction with compression, I am now involved with the development
