In need of some encouragement and insight. (waking up from coma, dealing with the trach, etc...)
Hi, My beloved mom (69 years old) has had a cardiac arrest about two weeks ago. Luckily (in a way...) she was already in hospital at the time (she's gone through a lobectomy of her upper right lung lobe, after being diagnosed with lung cancer. A relatively small tumor with likely no metastasis. Still

Gfr of 10 but feeling well - is this possible ?
Hi everyone. My son is 23 and only 4 months ago we learned he had CKD and his gfr was 20. Last week we were told it is now just 10. Aside from occasional tiredness however he is feeling totally fine. No other symptoms of kidney failure at all. Is this normal ? He wants to delay dialysis as long as possible

Dad type O- : Type 1 Diabetic
Hi All- I am writing on behalf of my father, who just turned 59 and has had type 1 diabetes since he was in his late 20's. He recently is reaching closer to having to be on Dialysis. Watching a family member suffer through the disease of Diabetes is bad enough, but when you can't help its gut wrenching

I’m worried about my Nan...
Hello, I’m new here. My nan had an abdominal aneurysm which had grown large & needed surgery. She is 83. She had her surgery last week and the doctors were pleased with how the surgery went. However, she has been in ICU since, on a ventilator and sedation. She’s also on dialysis as her kidneys aren’

Dialysis fear.
Go ahead and get your fistula. If you wait too long you will need a chest port and they arr dangerous. Start investigating dialysis clinics in your area so you can pick the one you like and not the one that can fit hou in. Transplants are not always a perfect solution. There is much they dont tell you

I'm new
July 2017 I found out I had End Stage Renal Failure. I literally thought that was the end of my life. I spent about 3 weeks in the hospital. My world was flipped upside down. I started dialysis and got put on tons of medication. After I was released I found myself getting depressed just sitting at home

Trouble adjusting.
After having a renal transplant 23 years ago my precious kidney has stopped working. I now find my self back on dialysis. I thought medical science would have made progress in 23 years. It still breaks down to you and that ungodly machine. Don't get me wrong I am happy to have this lifesaving option

SIFO and vitamin D
It seems I might have SIFO(small intestine fungal overgrowth) which affect thyroid function as does SIBO. Had thyroid tests on dialysis method done as normal tests vary too much. But surprise surprise lab tested them normally...how difficult it can be to read the lab referral!!! Anyway my doctor told

Dialysis vs. Transplant Survival Rates
My father (age 74) is in the process of starting
peritoneal
dialysis
. While he has had high blood pressure for most of his adult life and developed type II diabetes around 10 years ago, he has been living a pretty active healthy lifestyle.

Dialysis
I was told yesterday that I need to prepare for dialysis. My doctor of 5 years passed away last week and I'm now seeing another doctor in her group. I am feeling down because she was doing everything possible to prevent me from going on dialysis as she knew that I have a donor. The problem with that

Facing Dialysis and/or Kidney Transplant
I have a GFR between 28 to 34. My nephrologist advised I should meet with the transplant team at my hospital to be evaluated. Up until now, I haven’t seriously thought I would need a kidney transplant. Now, I am feeling very anxious about the road ahead of me. I am possibly facing dialysis and/or a transplant

Just diagnosed
I have been just been diagnosed with PKD. I'm 46 yrs old with 2 kids, 19 and 11 yr old autistic son. My GFR turned up at 52 last month that's what sparked my PCP to do test. I'm devastated. I'm devastated for my autistic son, not even for myself. I mean what is he going to do without me? I have to get

Dialysis Humour
Hi All, I'm new here. My mother has started on dialysis recently. The who journey has been overwhelming for us. I started doodling some of her experiences, to bring about the lighter side of all this. Sharing one below. I also have a question around fistulas: Mom has been told to squeeze these "smiley
