Targeting α-synuclein aggregation and its role in mitochondrial dysfunction in Parkinson's disease
Abstract Lewy bodies that contain aggregated α-synuclein in dopamine neurons are the main culprit for neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease. However, mitochondrial dysfunction has a well-established and prominent role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease. The exact mechanism by which α-synuclein

Radio program - Caffeine Shampoo
The other day, I came across a Radio 4 program which discussed caffeine shampoos. Despite not coming to a strong conclusion on them, the rest of the program was quite interesting about hair growth in general. Bit of a shame that, as so often, they manage to ignore thyroid issues. Despite mentioning

The use of relying on DAT Scan to confirm Parkinson's
I recently met with my movement disorder doctor who was unsure if I had Parkinson's, so she ordered a DAT Scan that indicated that I did not have Parkinson's, even though I display all the symptoms. I don't know how reliable this DAT Scan is in diagnosing my issues? I do have a 6-month follow-up appointment

Coffee & caffeine: can the benefits of coffee be replicated without coffee?
Coffee is said to increase cortisol. Caffeine is said to increase anxiety. I need to reduce both but I drink coffee daily for its neuro protective benefits. Can I finally say goodbye to coffee and replicate these benefits via a different means? I’m revisiting this subject because I’m really tired

Velvet Antler Methanol Extracts Ameliorate Parkinson's Disease by Inhibiting Oxidative Stress and Neuroinflammation: From C. elegans to Mice
In vivo MPTP-induced PD mouse investigations demonstrate that MEs prevent MPTP-induced neuron loss in the substantia nigra and improve
parkinsonism
in MPTP-treated mice by increasing the expression level of TH and downregulating α-synuclein protein expression.

Researchers identify a subtype of brain cells that die in Parkinson's patients
A new study spurs in identifying a new patho-physiology path to PD and it sheds to re-exam areas needed to consider in its diagnosis . " Prior research has shown that the disease arises when nerve cells in the substantia nigra (located in the midbrain) deteriorate for unknown reasons. As a result,

Acupuncture inhibits neuroinflammation and gut microbial dysbiosis in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease 2020
Thus, we investigated whether acupuncture could improve
Parkinsonism
and gut microbial dysbiosis induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine. First, we observed that acupuncture treatment at acupoints GB34 and ST36 could improve motor functions and comorbid anxiety in PD mice.

Mitochondrial uncoupling ; can this help PD, appears maybe
“Apoptosis induced by MPP+ was ameliorated by NTZ in a dose-dependent manner. In vivo results demonstrated that oral administration of NTZ (50 mg/kg) in an acute MPTP mouse model of PD conferred significant protection against the loss of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-positive neurons of substantia nigra.
