I would like to meet the doctor who prescribes this drug for the dyskinesia caused another prescription.

Medications that can cause tardive dyskinesia include:

Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications.

Dopamine-receptor blockers (dopamine antagonists).

Lithium.

Malaria medications.

Neuroleptics (antipsychotic drugs or tranquilizers).

Anti-nausea medicines (antiemetics).

Older drugs used for Schizophrenia have caused TD. Melatonin has shown benefit for both as well as PD in studies.

Marc, what led you to this? Curious about what you have percolating.

It reduces the amount of dopamine in the body but does it reduce the amount being produced?

Not finally! I’m sure mirtazapine and sertraline started it off with hubby, they certainly increased his anxiety (Sertraline) and apathy (mirtazapine).

Also procyclidine that he takes a tiny bit of now is used to lessen the pyramidal effects of other drugs supposedly. It is an anticholergenic drug

I know this is an old topic, did a search on Austedo......WHY?

Because my neuro just prescribed it (I was dx with parkinson's 3 years ago and take sinemet) He prescribed it for muscle 'jerk' I have in my left shoulder/neck, which I thought was a form of dyskinesia)

Was shocked to read it can cause parkinsonism...I'm flabbergasted...how is this even possible?

Whenever I have been prescribed a pharmaceutical, my response is, "Thank you for the suggestion. I'll consider it." Then I go home a read everything published about the drug and if it is something I am willing to try, I call back and say, 'Go ahead and prescribe it.'

I do not take prescription drugs without investigating as well....I just couldn't help finding such a seemingly glaring contra-indication, iow, what am * *I** missing?

Our knowledge of medicine doubles every few years, so if your doctor is over 40 and doesn’t keep up, medical school was in the dark ages 20 years ago.
