Radio program - Caffeine Shampoo

The other day, I came across a Radio 4 program which discussed caffeine shampoos.

Despite not coming to a strong conclusion on them, the rest of the program was quite interesting about hair growth in general.

Bit of a shame that, as so often, they manage to ignore thyroid issues. Despite mentioning some other factors.

Might be worth half an hour of listening in the background!

Caffeine Shampoo

Sliced Bread

Greg Foot and his guests put caffeine shampoo and other hair products through the evidence mill.

Can caffeine hair products prevent our hair from getting thinner as we get older and, even better, reverse the process? Or does this ingredient just end up going down the plughole? Joining Greg Foot in the studio is Ian Carmichael, Senior Director in Styling at Trevor Sorbie, the Hair Salon, who styles many high profile heads including Her Majesty the Queen’s. Dermatologist Dr Paul Farrant, from Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust, is on hand to put two products through the evidence mill, separating the facts from the fads to reveal whether caffeine hair products really are The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread. Produced by Beth Eastwood.

I do not know about availability outside the UK.

Hi helvella

I was talking hair loss with a fellow hypo the other day. When I was under medicated I could have sworn my parting in my hair was getting wider last year. I have a good head of hair and convinced myself I was just panicking- one year on I’m plagued at present by loads of stray hairs about a years worth of growth.

I’m grateful for my ‘plague’ but it kind of backs up my fears were justified and I was starting to loose and that hair has grown back now I’m on a therapeutic dose. All other symptoms have subsided. So sad the elephant at the party was ignored. But then it’s a can of worms isn’t it? After all it opens the topic if treatment and mismanagement. 🤔

No amount of caffeine shampoo can sort that …..

The caffeine question I ended up with is whether caffeine shampoo does, or even could, make a difference in someone who already consumes a significant amount of caffeine?

Yes, they did touch on differences between swallowing and scalp application. But didn't really go far enough. (Not blaming the individuals. They were just reporting what is known.)
