Just another manic Monday
And here comes another week! Trying very hard to stay cheerful, although the knowledge that in only 16 days, my boyfriend will be under general anaesthetic having a major bowel op is keeping me in a constant state of panic. His surgeon is supposed to be one of the best and most careful that there is

Despair
Sorry all! just a bad time! I don't normally 'do' despair! And why now? Cancer in remission! Sciatica tolerable! Pain relief possible! Why , oh why , do I feel like shit and can't talk about it! I am 72! I could never have expected a sex life at my age! So the stoma should not be a problem, after all

Bowel Transplant + QPR + NewsRoom+ Emotional turmoil = ME!
Thursday, 20 September 2012 I spent ten days writing and then re writing this blog post as there has been so much going through this tiny mind of mine and I never knew how to start. Then about half an hour ago I was back in my own den of tranquillity, the toilet, contemplating the meaning

What stoma myths would you most like to see dispelled?
It is often hard for people who do not have a stoma to fully understand the mechanics of them. If you have a stoma, what myths have you heard that you would like to dispel? Do you have any tips to help people who want to explain their stomas to others?

What are your burning questions?
If you could choose a topic to discuss on the Ostomy Lifestyle forum, what would it be? What issues do you think need to be highlighted more to the ostomy community and wider?

Trying too hard and considering Metformin! Anyone else considering it?
I am feeling very well in myself and was hoping for some fun during remission but the d****d sciatica is severely restricting my activity. I have been trying to 'be normal' but 3 theatre trips on consecutive nights might have been overdoing it just a bit. I push myself to do as much as possible but a

My journey from Crohn's Disease, via bowel transplant, to normal life....
Sunday 2 September 2012 How do you define normal life? I'm pretty sure that my idea of normal life will be different from yours. When you are recovering from long term illness and major surgery the phrase that keeps popping up is "don't worry you will soon be back to a normal life." After having

Cancer and Me (Etc)
I've never written a blog before, so please bear with me. On the 19th December last, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer and non small lung cancer , both completely separate types. I was 71 years of age at this time, very fit, I thought and healthy. No thoughts of cancer. On the 12th January, 2012

Today is my birthday! I am counting my blessings!
I am 72 today! The stoma is settling, the backache is tolerable (just) it is not actually raining, symptoms are minor, it is not raining, I am going to see my friend who has Parkinsons, that always reminds me how lucky I am, then I am meeting a friend for lunch, my gradsons are ringing when I get home

Up-date on my daughter
It's me again! My daughter is due her next scan this Thursday. She has them every three months. She has been horribly unwell the last week or so - extremely tired, looks yellow sometimes, around the mouth and chin particularly and last night admitted she has been having abdominal pain on and off and

Colostomy - The Truth
Hi, I am 33. Last April (2011), I received laproscopic surgery for endometriosis. I had a 5cm cyst on my ovary and everything down there was so stuck down that they couldn't even see my fallopian tubes. I was also diagnosed with infiltrating endometriosis, which basically means it is in my bowel too

Does anyone else who has an ileostomy have to take Magnaspartate sachets for low magensium?
Because of the ileostomy which I've had for 18 months I suffer from low magnesium. I take 1-2 magnaspartate sachets per day but because they cause diahorrea I feel they do me more harm than good because soon after I take them I then have a couple of bags full of pure liquid poo (sorry if tmi!). It's

Does anyone out there has an ileostomy because of their ovarian cancer?
I have joined the Ileostomy Association but although I have had lots of very good advice and help, no-one seems to have their stoma because of ovarian cancer. I have a very active, high-output stoma and find it all a bit exhausting although I try to stay positive and as it is not reversible I have no
