Prolia - here's my view, 2 shots, 6 months in
DEXA showed hips and spine
osteopenia
. DEXA doesn't measure neck or collarbones. June 2019... got referred to a Rheumatoligist to checkout my thyroid gland (which was fine btw), but he said... so when did you notice being calcium deficient?...

Arthritis top & bottom of my spine & Fibromyalgia my future looks very rosey indeed!! I’m waiting to be referred to Orthopaedic team re my back & starting Buprenorphine patches this week.

Since I've been worried about my
osteopenia
, I signed up for a "Women on Weights" class at the YMCA. Big mistake. The weight exercises caused pain and stiffness in my left (replaced) hip and wondered if I'd done damage to my fake hip joint.

Osteopenia
Dx GCA March/19 Started on 50mg prednisone, currently on 27.5, MTX added 2 wks ago. Not going really well.... Finally had my Deka scan done last wk, it was ordered directly after dx to try to get a base line, but 6 month wait here in B.C. Canada. So femoral neck -2.4 total hip -1.9 lower spine

Osteopenia and HRT
Last year I had a (private) dexa scan that showed I had
osteopenia
in my spine (-1.8) my hips are fine. I didn't have hrt because I felt fine enough not to need it. I didn't know that taking hrt would be good against the prevention of osteoporosis. The drs never told me this.

Alendronic Acid
ago GP put me on 15 mg of Pred and reduced down to 3 when I had a flare, I have been on Alendronic Acid for the first 5 years, a different GP said I no longer need to take it, then I saw rheumatologist, and he wants me back on it, I had a dexa scan in February 2018 and it was ok, just early stages of

Steroids and effects on bone density
My hip consultant was alarmed at my steroid use and suggested a DEXA scan which revealed osteoporosis and
osteopenia
in both hips and a suggestion of brittle bones. He suggested steroids are bad for bones and my bones are bad.

Further Update
L2 & L4 up fractionally but still
Osteopenia
. Completely ignored the areas of my spine that had improved (total spine now -1.0). Suggested that I go back to the Rheumatologist as he had agreed to me having a year without AA and then do a repeat scan.

When
osteopenia
or osteoporosis occurs following the menopause shouldn't one suspect a hormonal issue? A 1988 paper [1] reported that: "Long-term studies confirm that postmenopausal women who regularly use estrogen have greater bone mass and fewer osteoporotic fractures."

Health update
This showed Osteoporosis in my right hip and
Osteopenia
in the left hip and spine. I had stopped Alendronic Acid after 13 months as my steroid dose was low and refused to restart it following the Dexa Scan.
