Back and shoulder pain

Hi all. I have osteoporosis in my spine with a T score of -3. I also have developed kyphoscoliosis so I am looking very bent over now even though I try to stand tall also osteopenia in my hips and have recently started to have pain and stiffness in my left hip Because of this I am struggling with the pain. Has anyone tried wearing a brace and was it successful? I am still waiting to see my GP should have had a app yesterday but when I got there they said I hadn't booked one !!! Going next week now.

I also have a slight kyphosis but when I discussed the use of a back brace with my physio, he said they tend to result in weaker back muscles. He recommended a range of back strengthening exercises instead and I do these regularly. I also wear a weighted vest occasionally but my physio said take care with this and when wearing a rucksack because they can have a tendency to push you forward. He didn’t say don’t use them at all but be aware of weight distribution and posture. He especially said be careful wearing a weighted vest if you are doing housework.

Thanks for the reply Bev53 I will have a word with my GP next week now. I have never worn a weighted vest but will have a read up. I am waiting to go to see a osteoporosis nurse but I think it's a long waiting list. Hence the reason I want to try and help myself. My daughter mentioned the muscle weakness in my back so I am careful not to use it for to long. I now have kyphoscoliosis so am bending both ways. !!!!

Good luck with your GP and in addition you could ask for a referral to a physiotherapist.
