RAI for Graves 1992, Cytomel 100 mcg, Nature-throid 1-grain just got back from ER diagnosed with A-fib most recent blood-test TSH .01L (.40-4.50 mu/l), T4, Free .4L (.8 - 1.8 ng), T3, Reverse 6L (8-25 ng/dl) , T3 Free 3.2 (2.3 - 4.2 pg) I am trying to figure out what is going on. Are my meds too high or too low? My endo says they are slightly low. ER dr wants to add blood thinners but I want to wait until Monday to discuss with Endo. I was diagnosed recently with osteopenia and Endo added osteo supplement and 10,000 iu of D3. I have taken propranolol and metoprolol in the past for irregular heartbeat/bouts of high BP. Any information or suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common
As you are taking high dose vitamin D add you also supplementing magnesium?
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
when on NDT make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
I have contacted my GP and have requested antibodies tests because I do not know if I have ever had those checked before. I know I also have not had iron, ferritin and folate checked within the last year.
I am taking increased dosages of D3/K2 due to osteopenia diagnoses and GP has increased my magnesium also.
I have always waited at least 12 hours between my last dosage and my test, that is what my GP requests also.
Some months ago, I was prescribed Propranolol by my GP for periodic irregular heartbeats and did take it for awhile but GP recommended that I stop due to lowered BP and pulse rates and the irregular heartbeat had corrected when dosage was increased. After trip to ER for afib last Thursday, I once again tried the propranolol and it did stop the afib so I am continuing with it until my BP and pulse rates are affected. I have contacted my GP to keep him updated on this.
I still cannot figure out why when taking my T3 I have weird chest sensations & tightness/extremity tingling/anxiety that I have not ever had in the 20+ years that I have been taking it. I take split doses of T3 as per my GP. Approximately 5 months ago, T3 cytomel was unavailable from Pfizer (the manufacturer), I have had strange side effects ever since and am concerned that it has been reformulated with new fillers, which they have been known to do in the past.
I just feel something is just not right. I have not felt well for months and no one can seem to figure me out. Thanks for your help.
Have you had your VitD and calcium tested ? Osteopenia can be caused by hypercalcemia which would need investigating. High calcium will also cause heart rhythm disorders.
I have Vit D checked every 4-6 months and I looked back at my old test results and do not think I have had my calcium checked in almost 3 years so I will be requesting my dr to add that also to my next test. Thanks for the info, bantam12!
