The "Sally Painting Story"
For many people, the name Sally Painting may be unknown. But Sally was an inspiration for so many people. She was the first-ever liver transplant patient to later become a nurse. She even worked on the same liver ward at the QE Hospital, Birmingham where she was once a patient. At the age of 13, Sally

Fibroscan shows fatty liver
Hi, had my Fibroscan today. I was diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cholangitis 6 months ago, my scan said I had slight fatty liver damage and the other reading was 5.8 so in normal range. I presumed the scan would've picked up damage from PBC not fatty liver. Does this mean I don't have PBC? I've to wait

Liver Transplant – Letter to Donor family – totally gutted.
I had my liver transplant back in 2016 due to alcohol abuse and Hepatocellular Carcinoma. For a good 10-months post-transplant, I suffered terribly with survivors guilt and PTSD. I honestly felt that writing that letter to the donor family was an honest reflection of my gratitude. It helped me to deal

DNA mutations impacting liver disease patients identified by Wellcome Sanger Institute and Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute
From time to time I like to post up any interesting liver research that’s recently been concluded, that may be of interest to others. When I developed end-stage liver disease back in 2015, I became diabetic. No one could tell me why, or even which type of diabetes I had. The diabetic doctor told me it

After months of urinary tract problems, I was finally diagnosed with Stage 4 Advanced Prostate Cancer with a Gleason score of 9 by the VA
Multiple Myeloma was first suspected because there were more than 5 metastases that showed up in an MRI. We wasted a couple of months going down that rabbit hole. The APC diagnosis was confirmed in January of this year. The oncologist put me on Firmagon in February and Zytiga plus prednisone in March

Update on partner, some good news
Hi all. I hope everyone is as well as can be and staying positive. My partner had his transplant last weekend and is doing well! Less than 4 weeks on the list with 2 unlucky trips, but 3rd time all systems go. I can only tell it from my experience. I can't explain the relief and gratitude I feel.

Fibrosis diagnosis
Hi everyone, I’ve just had a fibroscan, and told I have scaring of my liver, my consultation was surprised as my bloods were all normal so he did it twice, first time the score was 9, second time 7.5. I’ve no fatty liver. He said as I hadn’t had a drink recently it could have been worse. He said that

Battle Lost To Alcohol
Unfortunately, my husband died yesterday from complications due to cirrhosis. He had been a heavy drinker for most of his adult life. He felt well and was working full time right up to the day he got admitted to hospital at the end of August. Even for the first couple of weeks in hospital, he felt reasonably

Prognosis for compensated cirrhosis
I have cardiac cirrhosis from right sided heart failure. Tricuspid valve is regurgitating severely sending blood back to liver, congesting it to the point of cirrhosis. I have no liver symptoms. Found incidentally on CT scan. Anyway, I know that survival is 9-12 years for compensated cirrhosis at diagnosis

CHILD-PUGH SCORE
Scottish female age 64 years. I've recently been diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis Cirrhosis . I'd no idea. May have been caused after 40 years of taking Statins for high cholesterol but equally may be hereditary. My letter states my Child-Pugh score is 5 which I note is level A in some literature
