Hi there,I recently had my vitamin levels taken, as despite taking levothyroxine and T3 I am still feeling extremely tired, have hair loss, weight gain and lack of concentration. I wondered if it might be my vitamins. The results were: B12 & Folate Serum vitamin B12: 932 ng/L (180- 770) Serum folate

Hi guys, After recently finding out I have Hashimotos (going to the Dr on Thursday) I have been taking stock on what I take and whether it is beneficial to me or could cause harm. I take the Heights Smart Supplement and wondered what you guys thought of what is inside it. I was mainly worried because

NICE Guidelines under review
Hi All It's been a while since I was on this lovely forum and I hope everyone is doing OK. The Level of Serum Pepsinogen in Diagnosing and Evaluating the Severity of Subacute Combined Degeneration Due to Vitamin B12 Deficiency
It's well known that B12 deficiency results in gastrointestinal symptoms, but this is a new twist for me: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fneur.2021.604523/full

B12 and ECG
Has anyone ever had a B12 injection while hooked up to a full 12-lead (or whatever) ECG machine? Did it cause any detectable changes that seems directly due to the B12?

Vitamin B12 status in health and disease: a critical review. Diagnosis of deficiency and insufficiency – clinical and laboratory pitfalls
This is an extraordinary thorough review of B12 deficiency and B12 insufficiency, with an actual description of the difference, including severity of symptoms. One interesting factoid is quoted here: "In 1900, Russell noted characteristics of B12 deficiency that are overlooked with surprising frequency

Vitamin B12 deficiency from the perspective of a practicing hematologist
I feel this article contains many bits of information that often pop up on this forum, and explains them quite thoroughly and clearly. At the end is a statement that is relevant to most people on this forum, and I quote that statement: "It should be noted that patients with pernicious anemia at times

Can a non-specialist (still a qualified medical DR, just not in general practice or haem) prescribe a b12 trial (NHS psychiatry consultant)
hi guys! hope you're all well. sorry i havent been here in so long. it's been an absolute age! to be honest I got so frustrated with my DRs that I just couldn't think about it anymore and stuck my head in the sand. My GP was insisting that I start on folic acid, which I was very uncomfortable doing

Vitamin B12 deficiency is underdiagnosed — here’s what to look for July 17 2023, The Times The last thing a beleaguered NHS needs is more custom, but that’s not the responsibilty of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) and is unlikely to hold much sway as the organisation finalises

Private/NHS Haematologist Referral to Access NHS Iron Infusion
Hi Guys Background is that for B12 to work its magic there must be sufficient iron in the body - even being slightly low in iron circa 18% deficient for example, can apparently hinder the healing effects of B12. Now, needless to say that for most GPs this is complete rocket science and mind blowing

Is it worth having a private iron panel done when the NHS results can be so different?
Whom should I believe? A few months ago (April) I had the results above via Medichecks. Last week these were the NHS results: Serum Iron: 29.5umol/L (14.00 - 30.00umol/L) Serum Ferritin 22 (13.00 - 150.00ug/L) Transferrin Saturation 39 (20.00 - 50.00%) TIBC 76 (50.00 - 72.00) So according to NHS

Guardian Article about B12 from algae
An article in the Guardian today about how certain algae harvest b12 and that this could be exploited to create a natural source of B12 for vegans. I was a little confused by the following paragraph. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/jul/15/scientists-find-vital-missing-ingredient-for-healthy-vegan-diet-algae
