Vitamin Levels Tested- advice please.

Hi there,I recently had my vitamin levels taken, as despite taking levothyroxine and T3 I am still feeling extremely tired, have hair loss, weight gain and lack of concentration. I wondered if it might be my vitamins.

The results were:

B12 & Folate

Serum vitamin B12: 932 ng/L (180- 770)

Serum folate >20.0ug/L (4-26)

Serum ferritin: 108 ug/L (30- 300)

Total Vitamin D

Serum total 146 nmol/L (50 - 200)

HBAIC for DM (diabetes)

31 mmol/mol (20-41)

Everything came back as labelled 'normal' apart from high B12 but I don't know if my levels are optimal?

They also did full blood count which I have attached.

Any help interpreting these results would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

How much levothyroxine are you taking

Which brand

How much T3 and do you normally split the dose

Day before test ALWAYS split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test

Last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drinking water between waking and test

Do you have Hashimoto’s (autoimmune thyroid disease ) usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies and/or ultrasound scan

Please add most recent thyroid results

Hi SlowDragon,

Thanks for your reply.

I take 75mg of levothyroxine and 62mg of T3 (self sourced Tiromel) which I take in one go in the morning 2 hours before food and drink ( reduced down dose from higher levels in previous post).

I don't know if I have Hashimoto's. I don't have any thyroid results yet whilst taking the T3. I intend to take a Medichecks thyroid one in a few weeks time. I will follow the procedure for taking my t4 and t3 before the test.

Do you think my vitamins and bloods look OK to you?

Thanks

Good grief that’s a high dose T3 …..not surprising you are tired

Standard STARTER dose T3 is 5mcg twice a day

After 6-8 weeks retest and some people may need to increase T3 SLOWLY in 5mcg steps to 3 x 5mcg ….or possibly 20mcg in total

Retest again in another 6-8 weeks

How long since you started T3

Suggest you get tested now……Likely to need to reduce dose T3

Remember to split T3 as 3 doses day before test

20mcg waking, 20mcg mid afternoon And last 20mcg dose of T3 8-12 hours before test …..so between 9-11pm

Last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Test early morning, just before 9am

Have you never tested TPO and TG antibodies for autoimmune thyroid disease

These should be tested at diagnosis of hypothyroidism and definitely tested BEFORE starting on T3

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Could this T3 dose make me tired ?Before the T3 and just on levothyroxine my heart rate was only in the high 40s. Now it is about 60bpm but I'm still tired, hair loss etc.

What were TSH, Ft4 and FT3 BEFORE adding T3

Taking too much T3 will leave you exhausted
