Liver function and drugs
Hi everybody, I now have a new scary thing going on. A recent blood test showed raised level of some enzymes. (ALT for info). I was told that I may have fatty liver disease. I was questioned quite closely on how much I drink. (Not that much in the broad scheme of things) I had to have a second blood

My Story - skip to bottom for AF question
Hi Everyone I have just found this site and gained some useful information. My first conclusion is that no two cases are the same. I complained about my heart feeling funny over 5 years ago to my Dr who sent me for an ECG - result no problems. The year before I had been put on blood pressure pills

Blood Pressure
Hi everyone. Its been nearly a year since I had my heart attack. Since then I have been on Ramapril for blood pressure, Warfarin, Sotalol and Simvastatin. As far as I know I have never had high blood pressure. The blood clot that caused my attack was the result of AF. My blood pressure at rest sitting

Has anyone tried red rice yeast as a replacement for statins?
My new doctor is thinking about putting me onto red rice yeast to help reduce cholesterol, but from what I've read up so far it seems the active ingredient is the natural form of statin from which synthetics have been derived (the patent for Lovastatin in the US exists and they are trying to declassify

Blood test results
Had a chat with GP this morning re blood test results. They tested for ten things ( most of which I can't describe let alone spell ) and two worrying ones were liver and possibility of borderline diabetes. Retest in a couple of weeks. Great, something else to worry about. In the meantime he suggested

A long story, as these things often are, but just home after 10 days in hospital after collapsing at work with symptoms: dizziness, weakness, collapse, dissociation, tremor/spasms/involuntary movements. speech & word finding difficulty, facial droop, balance and walking. This is second time in 18 months

The valleys between the knuckles on the back of my left hand are swollen, bluish and reddish. There is no pain. I am 46 and eat simvastatin.
In bright light it felt like the skin inside is bleeding and the valleys are puffy mountains of skin. One knuckle of the index finger is covered with hardened dark skin. Rest all knuckles are normal in color and texture. This condition happened in summer of 2013 and then vanished. Its re-occurred again

I have been taking atorvastatin for nearly 6 yrs after it was found my cholesterol was 9.5 . family history of heart disease etc
I moved and my new doct decided atorvastatin was to expensive and put me on simvastatin ,all the usual side effects etc ,then a new doct came into the practice and I opted to join him ,he put me back on atorvastatin but at a higher dose 40 mg as the simvastatin hadn't worked and raised my cholesterol

HELP!! Anyone had a problem with Statins and leg pain??
Has anyone had a problem with Simvastatin and muscle pain in legs? My GP put me on them for my cholesterol (it is high!), but within a week I was getting pains in my lower legs/feet, I could hardly walk never mind run! I decided to go back to week 1 so that I didn't put too much strain on my muscles,

To all my ibs sufferer colleagues - my GP has given me Simvastatin (to lower cholesterol) as well as all the ibs meds I have to take. So...
Has anyone suffered with nightmares and insomnia when taking these 'statins', I was ok for the first couple of weeks , then felt the usual (ibs) nausea, diarrhoea, bad taste, set in but was made worse because of the awful dreams and inability to go back to sleep - awful. Does it sound familiar to anyone
