Can some of the pain also be due to statins?
I have been having typical PMR pain - although with normal blood results, and am on prednisolone. Initially I had dramatic improvement, but recently the pelvic girdle pain is increasing. I was on simvastatin 20mg, but was changed initially to bezafibrate (because of muscle pain) which was ineffective

My journey from misery to hope.
I wanted to share something. As some of you are aware, I had my Levothyroxine reduced just over 7 years ago from 150mcg down to 100mcg purely on the basis of the TSH. At the time I had only basic understanding of my situation as a post-total thyroidectomy patient. I had been quite well

Statins Linked With Risk of Musculoskeletal Injury
Relevant for thyroid patients because cholesterol and thyroid hormones are linked. GPs are being persuaded to prescribe statins to lower cholesterol, rather than look for the real cause of high cholesterol. There is a debate elsewhere as to whether raised cholesterol is the problem it is made out to

Iv`e had a mild problem with my thyroid for some years now, & at first I was just monitered because i had no symptoms. Recently my cholesterol levels began to rise so my doctor put me on Simvastatin. The drugs made me very tired & achy, & I kept falling asleep all the time. I stopped taking them because

Alternative treatment?
As I got the diagnosis PBC in September'12 and on a treatment of Ursofalk. After 6 months some new bloodtests indicated that was'nt sufficient, so now I have to take fenofibrate as well. Since the itching comes and goes (I have Questran for that), and I feel very confused and I am obviously very unhappy

Which statin is best?
I know there is no right answer but curious for any advice. I am on 20mg of simvasatin which I reluctantly went back on after a couple of years break. I know my consultant wanted me on a higher equivalent dose but we compromised :-) He said he would rather me on a more modern version of statin

Do I have FH?
I have had cholesterol deposits around my eyes for a number of years and around 7 years ago had a cholesterol check which showed total cholesterol of 13.2 I was put on 80mg simvastatin and asprin daily. Within a few days I had so much muscular pain that I stopped the statins. Shortly after I changed

CRP and ESR within normal limits - increasing symptoms - previous PMR
I am almost 67 and female. About 5 years ago I was diagnosed with PMR - with raised CRP and ESR. I was treated with steroids for a year and the symptoms settled. I do suffer from chronic depression.. I have had both hips replaced for osteoarthritis. About six months ago I started getting pain

Statin induced Fibromyalgia!!???
Hi All, I've just been surfing the net and come across an article about stain induced fibromyalgia! I knew statins caused muscle pain but as I had been on Amitriptyline for 4 years before being put on Simvastatin I didn't think THEY were making my pain any worse. Seems like perhaps they were because

Simvastatin 20 mg prescribed today ?
After reading about statins, I am reluctant to start taking my first pill today, my father has high cholesterol and his specialist asked that his children's be tested. My results are 6.1 with 1.8 good and my GP recommends commencing statins, I was in agreement this morning bit after reading I am now

What do I need to do to get diagnosed-UPDATED
I am new to this site and I am desperate to find some answers. I am almost 42 years old and am female. I am 'borderline' hypothyroid according to my GP. I have type 2 diabetes, which is not very well controlled despite me taking an injection of 1.2 of Victoza every morning. I eat a healthy diabetic

How do you know if your dose of Levo is right - I'm on 50mg 4 week trial extended to 8 weeks as I feel no better - Doctor treating symptoms
Hi my annual blood tests recently flagged up the possibility of my having underactive thyroid - I was pleased that something came back wonky as for the past 5/6 months I have put on over a stone felt ghastly but had no one thing to pin point and so put off going to Gp as I felt a bit like a hyperchondriac

My first statin.
Hello, I'm new to all this and still taking it all in. Last year I'd had a few symptoms I was sure that were due to stress, I was unhappy at work, being a single parent and juggling a 40hr a week job was wearing me down and my family had suffered a loss in the form of my uncle who had a stroke and

Simvastatin warning
I have received a letter today from my GP informing me that the MHRA have issued a statement cautioning the use of simvastatin with Amlodipine as it has a likelihood of side effects particularly in the form of aching muscles and I thought my muscles where aching from getting out of the armchair
