Keeping Step with Parkinson's: Balance, Posture and Gait
Balance, posture and gait issues are some of the most troublesome and difficult to treat Parkinson's symptoms. While tremor and muscle rigidity can be treated with dopamine replacement therapy, these medications are less useful when it comes to how you walk and maintain your balance. Dr. Chris Hass

Clonazepam, benzodiazepines & alternatives.
Maybe a naive question, but having benefitted from clonazepam for a year or so my plmd is now increasingly resistant. Is this resistance specific to clonazepam or is it likely to be generic to any other benzodiazepine I might try as an alternative? If I've had it with benzodiazepines, what SRIs or dopamine

Ordering a-Syn blockers in bulk. Master list of nutrients for PD.
I'm going to order the following plant extracts in bulk from China as powders and mix them for storage and later mixing in drinks. I'll dump the powders in a 5 gallon bucket, shake, bottle, and label according to FDA. I'm already taking about 2/3 of them. Let me know if I'm missing anything. I

dopamine transporter deficiency syndrome known as dystonia

'The Science of Motivation'
A slightly dated (Dec., 2013), but timeless article about the multiple roles of dopamine (or lack thereof) with a focus on that of motivation. It may be of interest to those of us who occasionally have a tough time getting out of bed in the morning or off the sofa in the middle of the day. It presents

RLS remedies that worked for mom
My mom has had RLS since her pregnancy 30yrs back. She managed by 'walking it off' at nights for 20 odd yrs before she actually consulted a neurologist who prescribed requip. She had blissful time for 4-5 yrs with sleep she had missed so badly for years. Sadly as seen commonly augmentation set in and

levodopa and dopamine agonists’ treatment in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients can become ineffective to control involuntary movements. Laboratory studies on PD animal models suggest that physical training may help to alleviate these symptoms offering an alternative form of therapy. http://parkinsonsnewstoday.com

Sugar & alcohol reduce tremors? Undiagnosed diabetes?
Has anyone noticed their resting tremor reduces with a good dose of sugar or alcohol? Like a soda (11 teaspoons of sugar) or a full beer (4 teaspoons of alcohol). The idea is that cells which are not able to produce much energy from compromised mitochondria can function better on a sugar or alcohol

Fast-Talking, Fast-Walking Contradiction
A couple short years ago, the ever vociferous John Pepper stated, "MAO-b inhibitors are capable of slowing down the progression of Pd. No other type of medication can, to the best of my knowledge, achieve this. As a non-medical person with Pd, I would like to know why this is not the best way to deal

Amphetamines in Chocolate and Aderall may cause Parkinson's, but reduce symptoms
Amphetamines like Aderall are implicated in causing Parkinson's as well as reducing symptoms. The way it might cause PD is by "wearing out" the dopamine system, but it also has been shown to act like pesticides and actually cause the bad a-syn protein to form. In looking at this, I came across two

Ritalin and Parkinson's
Has anyone had experience with Ritalin? (methylphenidate ) I'm surprised I had not heard of it being used in PD before, given the benefits they report. It helps quality of life, mood, apathy, and facial dystonia, but has primarily been used for improving gait and reducing freezing. It is a dopamine

Stem cell jab for Parkinson's "Daily mail 15/9/15"
Stem cells from unfertilised, donated human eggs are being used to treat Parkinson's disease. Foetal stem cells have been used before, but this new method avoids the ethical issues in using human embryos. In a trial in Australia 12 patients with moderate to severe Parkinson's will have a single dose
