Anything about LCHF less than 3 years old?
I have just got back to the LCHF lifestyle after putting on quite a bit of weight during the pandemic (comfort eating cakes and biscuits 🙄). I’m reading some posts for encouragement but find they are all from around 3 years ago and wonder if there are any more recent ones? Not that I suppose advice

diabetic macular oedema and prednisolone
I have been to the eye clinic today. I am type 2 diabetic (in remission for 4 years) and have diabetic macular oedema. I have had PMR for 5 years and down to 7mg of prednisolone. My opthamologist said my diabetes is not helping my eyes and I told her that I control it well but the prednisolone does

Co Enzyme Q10 & Alpha Lipoic Acid : good anti oxidants or not helpful bad ideas? Do they extend Healthspan or reduce inflammation?
I take both. I just ordered more regrettably as I’m now reconsidering the evidence behind both. I know many others on HU take them as well. What is the science to explain why? My reason for taking ALA is a lame one. Dr. David Sinclair does. But as I look in to this more I think that maybe neither

Managing Your Condition
I'm due another routine rheumatology appointment in approximately one months time and as usual, a full battery of blood tests are required. I've had PMR for over 3yrs now and spent much time researching my condition and the effects the steroids COULD have on my body! I know we're all well aware of the

Weight loss vs diabetes
In a bit of a quandary ... I have to watch carbs & sugar to avoid pred-induced diabetes. At the same time, I'm also worried about losing too much weight. I've lost about 40 lbs. recently, and am not totally sure it's all due to diet. Is there a good way to add a few pounds without upping my carbs

Zoe - Personalized Food Mapping App
Which eating plan should you adopt? The Liver Diet, The Atkins, The Low Carb high Fat, The FODMAP?? Do any of them work? This question has bugged me for the last 40 years so I bit the bullet and signed up to the Zoe App and testing regime and although I am still waiting for results, quite interesting

Cutting carbs and weightloss
Ok so I've heard that lowering carbs or going keto can help with weightloss, and I keep an eye on the amount I have (and I avoid all processed carbs), but I didn't know if it really made a difference or not. Until today.. Basically, my mum who's in her 70s and overweight, was told 2 weeks ago, that

Science of Parkinson's - Exenatide
Simon seems to think there is reason for optimism, but this paragraph stands out to me: Unfortunately, there was no significant difference between the liraglutide treated group and the placebo group when the investigators looked at motor symptom scores after 1 year of treatment. Both groups appear to

Salt
The British Heart Foundation have recently started to lobby government to put a levy on salt. There’s an interesting article in today’s Telegraph about it. (Sorry not linked it as I wasn’t sure about copyright et al). It describes how many foods have hidden salt. Tinned veg, processed meats and one that

Sugar in urine but not GD?
So I had two GTT tests that were normal at 28 weeks, after which I had a +2 in my urine so I had another GTT test at 32 weeks which was also normal. I then had a trace on the next check then again a +2, then a normal reading. However they still wanted to check so now I’m doing 4x daily blood prick tests

Low carb, high fat diet
A few months after my PMR diagnosis I was diagnosed with type 2
diabetes
. I read all I could and changed my
diet
to a low carb, high fat
diet
. I had been prescribed gliclazide for my
diabetes
. At my first diabetic review 6 months later I had reduced my weight to 8stone 10lb.
