PMR and a stoma

I have 2 stomas and I am really struggling to manage the colostomy as I reduce the steroids. Every time I change everything goes haywire with my output. Does anyone on here have a stoma? I haven't met anyone so far trying to manage a colostomy (or an ileostomy) together with PMR. I would really love to know if anyone else has experienced the same as I am going through.

Thank you for such an amazing forum.

I really can't remember anyone else mentioning they have a stoma - and when you asked the question last time no-one replied saying they had.

Have you tried asking the question on a stoma forum? You may find people there who need pred for other conditions besides PMR but the experience will be the same.

I have an ileostomy and PMR (Nov '21). Am presently on 6mg of pred. Never thought of a connection btw pred and the discharge. I take tsp of arrowroot 2x/day. That seems to bulk up loose discharge Also wonder wat others have to say

just wanted to add that I have a stoma too. It was an emergency operation after I had a burst abscess on my colon ( diverticulitis) in October 2022. I have to say I was very glad it was done. I can’t apparently have a reversal. Yes, it is quite a thing to manage isn’t it? Along with other things like kidney stones very high blood pressure and all sorts of bits and bobs plus we are in the middle of moving to an apartment to reduce the worry and maintenance of quite a large bungalow and large garden both of which we love. So a lot going on plus I am now down to 6 mgs Prednisolone too. New rheumatologist who has so far been quite helpful. Also have to change medical practice which I’m not looking forward to!

Wishing you good luck.

Thank you Sheffield Jane, but then you too have an awful lot to put up with. And you always seem very stoic. ( hmmm is that spelt right?)

Thank you , I have always wanted to be stoic, but I am afraid I am not, I moan all day. Ask my long suffering husband. Hugs!

plus I have decided this morning to up my Pred to 10 mgs to try and knock the pains I always get in the mornings from the back of my neck across my shoulders down my arms in my elbows down to my wrists and into my hands and stay on 10 mgs over the coming week over our actual move. I am supposed to be continuing reducing 1 mg a month. Not sure at the moment whether I will be able to do that. Wait and see! Kind regards to you too, hope the Oz sunshine and seeing your rellies has done you a lot of good.
