Will we be growing CLL drugs in our garden and treating us and our CLL with a cup of home grown 'tea' in the future?
Tony Hughes, Associate Professor, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Melbourne explains how plants can be used as biofactories, using a special class of small proteins called cyclotides that are stable enough to survive tea making as an example: https://theconversation.com/little-farmer-big-pharma-the-quest-to-modify-plants-to-grow-medicines

CLL relapse and Bendamustine
Hi, My dad has CLL and is possibly going to need more chemo in the next couple of months. The consultant said it would be Bendamustine but I've read that this drug is possibly going to be delisted in November. Please can anyone advise on an alternative if it is delisted or is it possible to get the

The excitement is too much...just shows what an incredibly boring life we lead, when the arrival of a wheelchair...in metallic blue...gets me all of a quiver. It was never an item on my list of objects I'd love to own...doesn't really compare with an electric train set for instance or the Mediaeval table

Peeping Over The Parapet...
We have all we need...food on the table and warmth when it's cold...enough clothes and hot water and a loo that flushes. We have good neighbours and a reliable car and just enough money to spare for hobbies... There are our pets...the kittens who snuggle up and purr in my ear at night...the dogs Himself

Silly question....
Hi I was diagnosed with CLL in October 2013 I had treatment in October 2014 (bendamustine and Rituximab) and finished treatment in March of this year. I saw my haematologist yesterday and he said there is no trace of the leukaemia in my blood . My question is do I still have CLL?

FISH TEST
Dear CLL experts can someone please tell me what the FISH test is? I do understand that it is the main test to determine CLL. Since I have only had PET scans and MRI I'm wondering if the FISH test is a blood test? Or is the FISH test a bone marrow test? Thanks I know this is a very basic question

Friends, This week's new post on the CLL Society website http://cllsociety.org is an update of the data from trials with ibrutinib in treatment-naïve and relapsed patients presented by Dr. Byrd from an interview done at the CRC (CLL Research Consortium) meeting in San Diego in April 2015. Dr. Byrd

Nobel Prize in Chemistry highlights how our bodies can repair our fragile DNA - and provides the basis for cancer treatments
Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich and Aziz Sancar, have received the 2015 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for their ground breaking research into how each cell in our body copes with an estimated 10,000 DNA damage events every day. Subsequent research into DNA repair has offered remarkable opportunities to improve

Statistical analysis of REACH trial patients identifies Progression Free Survival prognostic factor for FCR patients
Why is this news about FCR - an 'old' immunochemotherapy treatment, so important now that we have non-chemotherapy treatments like Ibrutinib and Idelalisib? Many CLL specialists recognise that for some CLL patients, FCR may be a better choice. Just 6 month's treatment and they can hopefully forget

Another new one
Just found your group and thought I'd say hello. No major issues at the moment but it's always good to stay connected. I was diagnosed in 2009, required treatment earlier this year, and am now in a partial remission. I had bendamustine, Rituxan, and Idelalisib as part of a clinical trial but failed

COPD research in Derbyshire
I’ve been approached by a postgraduate research student, Karen, at Keele University. She is doing a research project into the ways in which men in semi-rural towns, aged 55 and over, look after themselves when they are diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The study will take

Anything positive out there?
Hi I've only recently joined this forum but so far its making me more and more worried rather than helping me, and we know how bad stress is for us all. I've been referred to IBS clinic this week and I've cut out diary and most wheat products, cut right back on sugar. All of which I should do anyway

Adcal-D3 caplets
Hi everyone again. Grateful thanks for yesterday's input. Today my query is about taking Adcal-D3 which my surgery has changed from Calcichew. The Calcichew was not a problem to take as they could be sucked or chewed, I kept mine by the bed and had the morning one before I got up and the evening one

Blood donors relax. There is negligible risk of CLL transmission via blood donation!
I'm very relieved to pass on this post by Irene Irwin to the CLL ACOR list today.
A 30 year study on 1.5 million recipients of blood from 2.1 million individual donors in Denmark and Sweden shows negligible risk of passing on CLL from a donor with MBL/CLL.
