High blood pressure, high cholesterol - Oops
Just moved house and a new doctor did the usual blood tests as a new patient. Together with blood pressure monitoring, I am now told I have high blood pressure and my cholesterol is extremely high. Tried statins 10 years ago, which made me look and feel like an old lady. Now I am trying again,

Old Subject re Statin use and PCa
I know there has been lots of discussion on the subject topic. In hopes of not beating a dead horse I recall those that claimed a hydrophilic (Crestor -rosuvastatin) had no positive benefit vs a lipophillic statin such as atorvastatin. However notable studies Contradict this notion, “Our results

High cholesterol Hashimotos
My recent cholesterol result was 7.7 which is up from December last year when it was 6.7. My Endo confirmed that it’s high because of thyroid disease, my gp had previously said otherwise. My Mum had high cholesterol and took statins, she was never diagnosed with thyroid disease. I just don’t know what

Update on statins
So my PCP asked about putting me on statins. Thank-you all for your help. I told her as long as they didn't work against my kidneys. She started me on Atorvastatin 10 mg per day. I've been taking it for about 10 days now but I don't know if I can handle it. I am sleepy all the time and my muscles hurt

Lipid clinic referral
Hi. Saw my cardiac nurse today she is concerned about my cholesterol as it's high at 7.2 she looked back over the last 5 years and it's never been this high before but it's also never been low despite taking statins. She is now arranging a referral to a lipid clinic. Could any one advise what happens

Hi, sorry if this is a repeat question or not supposed to be in here.... I'm 47 years old and quite healthy. Not overweight, and although I'm no athlete I do walk most days and cycle to work occasionally plus my 2 young kids keep me active. I don't look like your usual person who could be at risk of

Cholesterol and Statins
I thought I would share my experience so far and hopefully get some feedback to help me understand things. Please note, I am of course going to discuss the following with my GP but it may be a few weeks before I can get to see the only one I trust! So, a brief background: I am slim build and have always

Cholesterol increase on statins
I’m so confused and disheartened. Today I received a copy of my discharge from cardiac rehab and it shows a total cholesterol almost double to my reading post HA. My HDL has gone up a little but my LDL has more than doubled! How can this be? How can my levels be higher since starting statins, improving

Heart medication and common cold
Hello Everyone! I had a stent fitted after NSTEMI six months ago. Since then I am on the usual cocktail of anti-coagulants, beta blockers, blood pressure reducers and statins. There have been a few expected side effects (stomach upsets etc), but one unexpected one: it seems that I now get a cold every

Are My Numbers Horrible?
I was on statins 9 years ago and they caused debilitating muscle pains. When I switched doctors, my new doctor ordered a nuclear stress test, cardiac calcium test, c-reactive protein & NMR LipoProfile. Stress test was normal, cardiac calcium score was zero, c-reactive protein normal, but my NMR showed

Candida - oral and vaginal
Hello. I have had vaginal thrush for some months now. I have finally been informed that I am suffering from Candida Glabrata which explains why I haven't responded to medication so far. Throughout all of this, I have been on antibiotics for various things which have obviously made the situation worse
