Cholesterol
My cholesterol is rising, we think it is linked to pegasys and PV. My GP says it’s not my diet. Any thoughts or advice if statins are a good option in general for women with PV. My gp says it’s up to me as the research is inconclusive.

Is there agreement that Cholesterol should be low?
I've seen some discussions on here regarding the pros and cons of statins, Mediterranean diet, going vegan etc. Think I need to learn more before I can make any decision. However, as a starting point, is there general agreement that having a low total cholesterol level is good for preventing a heart

Statins & hypothyroidism
For those on statins: Hypothyroidism as a risk factor for statin intolerance https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S193328741400230X Be aware that some of your symptoms, especially muscle symptoms, may be due to taking statins rather than the hypothyroidism itself.

Statins
Just became aware of a connection with Statins and PMR. I have decided to stop taking my daily 10mg statin. See my Rheumatologist next week. I will discuss it then.

Statins and hypothyroidism
Interesting paper here: Asymptomatic hypothyroidism and statin-induced myopathy https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1949076/ Note that it warns that "use of statins in hypothyroid patients is dangerous" and recommends that all patients should be assessed for hypothyroidism before being prescribed

Anxiety 1 year after CABG
Hi I had a double CABG July 2018 when I was 50. Initially everything seemed fine afterwards and I had very little pain or discomfort. Since about February this year I have had more discomfort from my chest and left shoulder. Sometimes I can tell it is muscular but sometimes I have anxiety that it could

Heart Attack Journal
On 20th August, I had a minor heart attack. I've written a couple of posts about it and have mentioned it in various replies. It occurred to me that, instead of a scattering of updates, it would be better to keep it all in one place. Hence this "Journal". My plan is to keep updating this text so that

Ibuprofen gel on blood thinners
Hi - I’m on statins, beta blocker, clopidogrel and aspirin post stent. I’ve been mobile - playing football again. But now have a really painful spot in my foot that’s impacting my exercise (feels like a bruised joint). I want to see if it’s just inflammation and try ibuprofen - but understand it’s

Immunotherapy (Keytruda) and COC protocal
Ladies, my immunotherapy starts next week. I am currently on COC protocal. I am taking mebendazole, metformin and statins. Have yet to add the antibiotic. I am wondering if I can continue the meds while on immunotherapy. I have also written to COC and await their reply. While on chemo my doc has asked

Statins
Prior to my (surprise) heart attack on 20th March I was on Simvastatin but after my procedure was put on Arorvastatin. My problem is that I cannot seem to increase my energy levels. I tried half an hour walking each day but after a week it seemed like my body had been unplugged and I was completely drained

Similar faulty analysis of statin and thyroxine treatment in clinical trials
Malcolm Kendrick's latest blog interested me considerably in that it showed up the close similarities in the incorrect treatment and comment on clinical trials conducted both for statins and for thyroxine treatment. The latest BMC article on T4 treatment I posted earlier has exactly the same basic dishonesty

Stopping statins
So, last January Dx’d with PMR; both local MD and Rheumatologist said to stop my statin. I have a strong family history of stroke but I said OK. Started on Prednisone 10mg; now down to 3mg/2.5mg alternate days, methotrexate once a week. Doing just fine there. Couple of times I suggested to each doc separately

Information on statins
https://www.europeanscientist.com/en/features/do-statins-really-work-who-benefits-who-has-the-power-to-cover-up-the-side-effects/ This link may be useful to any of us who have already rejected statins, or anyone considering taking them. It seems all the evidence in their favour as a prevention of strokes

Signed Off
I have recently been signed of by my EP at St Thomas’s following successful ablation two years ago so fingers crossed that this continues. On the letter sent to my GP it says I have LAD 25% stenosis and therefore suggest I should be put on statins. I guess this means I have heart disease, Im not sure
