Yes- statins do affect rls. There was a recent post on this. About 3 weeks ago.

Clearly statins make things worse - there have been several posts.

Statins are now considered to be helpful only for those who have already had a heart attack - have you? They are handed out like sweeties, as DAs are, and are not safe drugs at all.

Otherwise, work out with your doctor or a nutritionist how to alter diet and lifestyle to bring your test levels down.

It can be done, and you will be better all round. Good luck.

I haven’t had a heart attack but high cholesterol and high blood pressure. The blood pressure pills are fine. Thank you for replying.

Google the PORTFOLIO DIET. It is a modified vegetarian all-you-can eat nutrition plan with 4 or five "portfolio" foods that lower cholesterol better than satins. It also reduces BP without meds. Your doc shd know about it. My wife just started to bring down cholesterol. It treats the cause of hypertension and high cholesterol, not the symptoms. Monitor BP and reduce or stop meds as it drops.

I too have high BP and high cholesterol. But I have adopted a mostly vegetarian/vegan diet.

It is the ratio of HDL to LDL that matters, not so much the total cholesterol. The right diet will see to that.

I was given statins back in the day before people started questioning them - which they should do. I lasted two days, my body ached so much. Never again, no matter what.

Bear in mind that for some years statins made more money than any other drug - many billions - it was very good marketing, hiding both the harms that can be done and the fact that there is absolutely no proof that they have saved a single life.

Try to tackle it with a change in diet, and your BP will probably improve too.

Good luck.

If they are really necessary then you should take them in the morning - not evening (I read this on Dr. B. site and my doctor confirmed).

I tried taking them in the morning but my legs became really bad in the evenings which was unusual for me. Thank you for replying

Hi! I’m almost 4 months into withdrawal from Mirapex. My neck, shoulder & arms felt like they had been repeatedly run through a paper shedder & my legs felt so contracted that I was wishing for a medieval stretching rack. I felt like I would go mad. I had been on Lipitor for 20 years & never had a problem til I stopped Mirapex. Luckily I remembered that a side effect of Lipitor is it can break down your muscles & I think the withdrawl triggered the reaction. It’s been 3 weeks since I stopped the statin and I’m finally feeling some hope that things are getting better. I’ve had three good days in a row! I’m sorry you’re having problems. There are several cholesterol medicines that my doctor told me I could be on without the muscle problems. I’m sorry I can’t remember the names of them right now (my brain is still scrambled from the

withdrawal. if you talk to your doctor they’ll be able to change you to something that works better for you. Sending thoughts for peaceful slumber’s 🥺🥺😴😴😴😴😴😴

I was on statins and developed what you're describing. Rhabdomyolysis is what it's called. My levels of enzymes in my blood were so high I was in danger of kidney failure. I was told to never go on statins again OR any other cholesterol medication as even the ones that are supposed to not cause the muscle pain etc still did it for me! So just be careful. I now control my cholesterol through diet and exercise. I also believe that as Parminter said, they are handed out like sweets and when the companies started selling them they kept lowering the levels of 'acceptable' cholesterol so more and more people were put on them because their levels were too high.

I have heard of so many people who have become seriously ill on them. My dad was also affected by them and a friend was so ill that he had to leave his job and it took over two years for him to get over them. I haven't heard about only going on them when you've had a heart attack but that really doesn't surprise me. Good luck Gillyfran! Keep reading here and you'll learn an awful lot of things that may help you. :)

My husband, who does not have RLS had terrible trouble when he first went on statins. His GP put him on adifferant one and he is fine

My doctor has tried every statin and I get RLS x 10 on every single one and I really need it because my chloresterol is very high. I don't know of any other med that will do it.

Statins are bad news. One thing it does, among many, is take away your memory. I have a friend who is forgetting so much because of the statins, so get off it if you can and take something else.

I have come off statins after just a month. My neck and shoulder hurt so much I bought an orthopaedic pillow to no avail and my legs jerked constantly I couldn’t sleep. So I started looking them up and decided to follow the Pioppi diet. Fascinating to listen to the author on fb. All my symptoms disappeared instantly.

Thank you for your reply. The first statin tablet caused havoc with my legs, but my doctor has given me another which is just 5mg which I am now tolerating which is a relief because I really need this to work.
