Really bad insomnia

4 nights now without sleep. I am trying so hard but this is doing my head in. I have loads to do tomorrow and I know it won't go well.

I can't really understand if this is the champix or something else. I had some disturbed sleep right at the beginning , but ster the 1st week, waking up was the problem. I was so tired tonight but got into bed and felt really hot and thirsty, then chest pains, then needed a wee. Got up and had some camomile tea. I feel really tired now, but I just know that if I go back to bed it won't happen for me.

Hi mummy. I’m going thru the same thing right now. It’s so aggravating.. I’m so tired and sleepy, I close my eyes and I can’t fall asleep. What should we do?!?!

Well, I'm going to get some nytol tomorrow. Can't go on like this, it's insane. I had insomnia when I smoked too, mind. Partly because when the boring killjoy non smokers were in bed I could puff away, without judgement and then of course I'd be too jittery to sleep, so at least I'm not clogging my lungs heart and arteries right now. And they're not boring killjoys, they are normal people who love me and don't want me to die prematurely. See ? Still trying to be positive!

Xx

Thank you. I've just looked you up and you're awesome too, gritting your teeth thro horrid symptoms. But it's 2 am here so I should be fast asleep, isn't Texas about 5 hours behind so it only 9 pm?

It’s 8pm here which is not bad, but for the past three days I’ve had horrible insomnia . I really hope I’m able to sleep tonight .

Ah, that dreadful I don't want to go to bed because it won't work feeling. Well, I don't think I should give you tips because all my efforts have failed, but there is a woman called Mary Maddux who does a guided meditation to help with sleep. It is not working for me tonight, but even if I don't get to sleep I do feel more relaxed. You can find her on an app called InsightTimer. It's free. They have loads of brilliant stuff to help with sleep anxiety etc. Mary Maddux is American and she has the nicest voice I ever heard.

So you could give that a go

Thank you so much mummy. Please try to sleep, drink some warm milk! I know this is very irritating 😠

Can't drink milk. I'm on a special diet to prepare for a colonoscopy. Maybe I'm worrying about that. Aah

You should try some Valerian root or Passion flower supplements.. they’re natural and good for sleep and anxiety..

Insomnia was soooo bad for me. I do hope you find relief soon. Even though you can’t sleep, try to just rest. Stinks. But it will get better!

Thanks. Worst thing is that I share a room with my husband so disturb him with it, also we have both our spare rooms reoccupied so there's nowhere to go but the sofa!

I need my own room!

Ugh, yes that is rough. Have you tried the breathing exercises listed on the site? Those are helpful too.

Hi it will take time folks for your body to adjust to having no nicotine and the symptoms you are both experiencing are temporary. They are just a pain to live with at the moment aren't they?

It's a good sign that your body is recovering from all the gunk you have fed into it over the years and in time you will feel much better. Trust me - I'm a doctor! :D xx

This happens to me all the time.. chronic insomnia since forever, im to the point where my whole body is weak & fatigued, I hoped quitting smoking would sort my sleep out & my body would relax easier. but not really 😣 argh.

Anyhow yes it could just be the champix in your case.. It defo made my insomnia even worse! madness I know..

like i would get so drowsy around tea time to the point I could hardly talk then I would get in bed & ping 🤤 my brain would awake & i could be awake for days.. my other half would be getting up for work & I would be sat up close to tears I would eventually doze when it got light. but only for an hour or so then with the crazy dreams i felt even worse as if I had been running through those dreams.

Right now I am Shattered but I guess looking back to a couple months ago I was like the waking dead 😅

Peeing all the time - yep thats the champix - it is broken down via the kidneys so you will be noticing you are going to the loo more often.

Not much helped tbh apart from cutting the dose gradually & then it was obvious that the tabs had that drowsy but wired effect on me.

Things that help a bit - Hot salt bath, candle light, nice aromatic smells (rubbing lavender or any e.o on your hands & inhaling is also a good craving distaction & it works to calm the nervous system.)

Nice soft relaxing music.

Try some hot chocolate or milk & honey. (I can't stand camomile tea but i have it in suppliment form)

Magnesium & calcium if all else fails maybe try a herbal or over the counter sleep aid if you are not used to sleep aids then u should feel relaxed enough to sleep.

P.S - Hot flushes, I found it was 2 things 1 - my body purging the toxins, which is another thing a salt bath would speed along.

2 - circulation getting better 😁 between weeks 8 & 12 I was like woah.. I am warm!! Lol.

I have had raynards for many years so hot flushes are not a usual thing for me. unless it was panic attacks or some medicaton that didn't agree with me. But defo felt improved blood flow in the form of hot flushes.

I do hope you manage to get some rest. Maybe I have waffled enough to send you to sleep.. haha.

I understand yes It is hell. but you are so close to 2 months, its like a spike period before it gets normal again x

Oh just saw more suggestions & ur comment about milk. lol hmmm herbal tea? Lol.. Its true we can throw off suggestions, but all in all this is your body in recovery. 😴 its a good sign, just an unpleasant one. One that will make you think I never wanna go through this again 😎

Thank you citrine sun. I did get some sleep in the end. Going to spend some time today turning my bedroom into a temple, although as I have to drink 2 litres of moviprep, which is a kind of oral enema, tonight, doubt I'll get much sleep anyway.

But it is the pits isn't it? I know other people swear by melatonin, but I don't think we can get that in the uk.

Another rubbish thing is it makes obesity more likely, and that's next on my hit list. I do know that eating too much is the principal cause of obesity, but when I'm dragging myself thru the day the biscuit tin is sometimes my only source of energy.

I am a work in progress!

Really sorry to hear what you're going through. I'm having a bit of difficulty getting to sleep before 1am. Happened last night again. Today is my first day back in work (on break now) was up at 6:30 this morning for work but feeling really shattered today and I look it too.

I hope you get better night's sleep very soon I'm guessing it's part of the stopping smoking process, the body adjusting to not getting what it wants (nicotine) still? For me, a smoke before bed was like a ritual, if I didn't smoke I'd be struggling to get to sleep. It's finding an alternative strategy to use instead of reaching for the ciggy and lighter..

Have you a nice hot bath with lots of radox then chilling with a book before sleep time? That helps me to relax and enjoy a better night's sleep. Keep going 👍 👍

Good morning Tom from Canada 🇨🇦 4:44am

Congrats on your quit👍 I used NRT to avoid withdrawal symptoms. It’s been fantastic. My last quit was 18 months cold turkey grrrr. If I would have had my nicotine lozenges handy, I probably would not have relapsed . All the best xx

11 months ago I went on 1 mg Melatonin and I sleep great👍 Not sure the health shops carry it in the UK. You tube it if you have a moment 😊. Hang in there MummyM xx
