I am new to this forum. I am on my umpteenth attempt at quitting. I have tried all the over the counter products but they (together with my lack of will power) have not worked for me. I went to the Dr yesterday and now I have my greasy little mitts on some Champix. I am not sure what to expect, but I am on day 2. Now, he said that this week I am to keep on smoking but even by day two - once I have got over the nausea of taking the tablet and ignore the constant dull headache - fags just don't seem that appealing. It is like the drug has magically changed my taste buds and because of the foul taste of the cigs, I don't really crave to light one up (even this early into the plan). Does anyone else have experience of taking Champix? I am going to persist and ignore the headache - as a headache (even if it lasts the whole plan) is better for the greater good of being smoke free, right?!
Thanks for reading - I look forward to reading your experience.
P.s I want to eat everything and anything! Champix makes me hungry...Β

Hi Lydia and a big welcome to this site. I've stopped smoking using Champix and yep it was a wonder drug Β in that it took away my desire for nicotine and I'd stopped smoking ciggies by day 7 and using nicotine in an e ciggy by day 13.
However it's not a wonder drug and I have found it's dealing with the routines, trigger points etc. Β associated with smoking that have been the hardest for me to deal with. This site has/is a really big help for me so keep it close by and do have a wonder round and read up as loads available and if you can't find an answer there is bound to be someone on here who can help.
Do make sure you eat something when you take the Champix as it can make you feel a bit a sick if you don't (it did me but eating something is not a problem! as you're finding )
I'm on my final week with the Champix as decide to cut it down to one table over the last couple of weeksΒ as was feeling very nervous about coming off it and suddenly my nicotine receptors shouting out for nicotine but seems they die off around 12 weeks so should be ok. still no desire to smoke but oh boy at times have I missed it! which is strange as I know it's no good for me but hey ho.
With regards to your previous attempts, you haven't failed, just been having test runs which should help this time round with identifying your trigger points so your better able to deal with them.
Oh and symptoms I blamed on Champix but seems can happen to all ex- smokers in the early days included β vivid dreams, flatulence, increased bowl movement, , increased appetite.
The key word on this site is NOPE - Not One Puff Ever - which is a useful little mantra when the going gets tough, which it may do at times.
Good luck with your quit and do post at anytime you need help or support as there really is a lot of lovely people on here ready to help at any time (unless of course it's sleeping time, but as this is an international site your bound to get someone responding ) I have found this site really has helped to come on and have a read when I've felt not right and by time I've finished my motivation is back in place and I've managed to say NOPE xx
Thank you Now, exactly now would be the time where I would nip out of work for a post-lunch ciggie. Although I am 'allowed' to smoke this week on the Champix plan, I am trying to break a routine. Maybe I will have that ciggie later, maybe I won't but if I don't go now I feel I am (very slowly) coaching my mind out of the cycle.
I myself never used champix but what others have said, the key is to make sure you complete the course.
I am sure members who have used champix will share their experiences.Β
Keep this site nice and close as the support here is brilliant - I know I will be eternally grateful as I am not so sure i would have been so successful without it πππ
Hi Lydia, lovely to see you here. Β I see Mazzie Β has advice for you. There is nearly always someone on here to help you. We have had many members who like you have struggled to quit, but with the support of this site Β we have lots of Β non smoking winners.
Hi Lydia, welcome to the forum. I haven't used Champix so can't help with that. Good luck on your quit keep on this site and join in it helps and is a good distraction esp in early days weeks. You can come on and have a moan or a laugh. π
Thank you - there might be some moaning from me to come. The last time I attempted to quit and was having a 'bad' day, I almost flung my other half's dinner at him when he suggested he wasn't keen on one item on the plate hahaha. And on another occasion I kicked a full box of laundry powder up my hallway and the stuff went everywhere - smelt nice though haha!
congrats on your quit!!Β I quit cold turkey, and I still and fighting the battle of wanting to eat everything, I don't think that's a side effect of Champix (though I'm not sure I'm sure others will know) but a side effect of breaking the habit of smoking that is the Hand to Mouth effect!!
Thank you I am trying to moderate my eating by choosing wisely - this chicken cup soup is really lovely *said no one ever* and I have a whole apple to look forward to later LOL
hehehehe I totally understand that, my first 3 weeks it was donuts I couldn't get enough of, however the last 3 weeks, I've been able to walk right past the fresh baked goods in the market, although it's hard!Β I do allow myself to have a small sweet treat, as I don't want to battle sugar withdrawals right now as well!Β One battle at a time, the first is to put all my strength to keeping up my quit, and once I start getting the energy, exercise!
Carrot sticks dipped in peanut butter or almond butter actually is satisfying, or apple slices in peanut butter it's something about the crunch!
Good morning Arizona from England! 13:35. Are you ok? I thinking of u often wondering if ur ok and safe and having any fun in Mexico hope so. U will be home soon π
Hey Andrew πYes this place is corrupt...and really not safe for two women in a deserted resort.... Β Wish we booked in at a hotel instead Of private condos... We have to taxi it into the city to get groceries and honestly? Β I can feel the resentment towards us from the people ... I hate to say that because my heart is in the right place but unfortunately it is true... We are a minority and I think it's best if we cover ourselves and veil our faces when we head into townπππ Β safer that way ... All I want is to get on a damn plane and first touch US soil and then change planes to Canadian land... I pray a lot to get us home safe .... But we have had some good walks beside the ocean..; no swimming allowed now because of the rip tides... I miss my cat sooooo muchπΏ
oh nooo, I'm sorry I didn't see this before my other reply I pray for your safety for the remainder of your stay in Mexico and for safe travels back to the US and Canada, what a bummer that it has turned out this way.Β I've never been myself, butΒ I know people that have gone and have had a blast, almost always they are in Cancun with an all inclusive resort...
Arizona I feel bad for you and all that's going on. Glad you trying to make the most of it. Some nice walks by the beach and a few drinks - I would. You will be back home so soon. Take care xx
I know but as you know there's not many things I don't like and peanuts and almonds things dipped in them there's no need for it. Have a bowl of ice cream for gods sake. Life's hard enough without dipping carrots in peanuts π
Hi Lydia and congratsππππππππππππ
I had headaches the first month and I started craving anything sweetπ¬ Β I gained 10 lbsπ‘Grrrr Β But for the last month I've cut out sugar and I'm slowly losing the weight .... But slooooowly ππ
I keep my reason for not smoking really close all the time.... COPD and stroke....
Talk soon and Not One Puff xx
